NIFT 2026 Final Result Live: Link at exams.nta.ac.in; Get Scorecard Download Link, Cutoff & Counselling Process

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced its weeding out policy for the NIFT Entrance Examination 2026. According to the guidelines, the records related to the NIFT 2026 exam will be preserved for only 90 days from the date of result declaration. After this period, all data, including answer sheets and score details, may be discarded as part of the routine record management process.

Candidates who have secured a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) in the NIFT final result will be asked to register in the May - June 2026 on the official NIFT counselling portal.

For NIFT B.Des, General Category, 40 - 50 is the goodscore for Stage 1; for OBC, it will be around 30, and for SC/ST, it will be around 30. For NIFT B.F Tech: 95+ for General, 80 for OBC, 60 for SC/ST. The cutoff is expected to be lower this year based on students' reactions.

The final result of NIFT 2026 is available in the form of a scorecard. It carries the following information.

• Name of the candidate
• Date of birth
• Photograph
• Roll number
• Application number
• Subject-wise scores obtained in written exams (CAT and GAT) and the Situation Test/ Personal Interview
• Total score in NIFT Entrance Exam 2026: Stage 1 and Stage 2
• NIFT 2026 merit rank of the candidate

Common Merit Rank of 1500 is a decent rank to secure a NIFT College. You can get colleges, like NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Kolkata, if you belong to OBC, ST, SC or EWS Category. If you are from General Category, then the chances of getting top NIFT Colleges are less. However, you can still get into these colleges for specialisations like Knitwear, Accessory Design, Leather Design, etc. 

NIFT 2026 final merit list is based on performance in the Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), Situation Test, and/or Personal Interview, depending on the program. The weightage of different stages in the NIFT selection process is
•    B. Des: CAT (50%), GAT (30%), Situation Test (20%)
•    M. Des: CAT (40%), GAT (30%), GD/PI (30%)
•    MFM/MFTech: GAT (70%), GD/PI (30%)

Marks refer to the raw numerical value obtained by a candidate in each section of the exam (CAT, GAT, Situation Test or Interview). Score generally means the combined or weighted total after applying the respective weightages assigned to each test component (e.g., 50% CAT+GAT + 20% Situation Test for B.Des).

In other words, we can say that:

• Marks = What you got in the paper
• Score = What counts towards your final rank after applying weightages

i. Each question carries 01 (One) mark.

ii. For each correct response, the candidate will get 01 (One) mark.

iii. For each incorrect response, -0.25 mark will be deducted from the total score.

iv. Un-answered/un-attempted will be given no marks.

v. To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as the correct option.

vi. However, after the process of Challenges of the Answer Key, in case there are multiple correct options or change in key, only those candidates who have attempted it correctly

as per the revised Answer key will be awarded marks.

vii. In case a Question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks shall be given to all the candidates irrespective of the fact who have attempted it or not.

After the NIFT Final result, NIFT Seat Allotment and counselling will begin.

The allotment of seats for NIFT 2026 will be based on the following parameters:

• Choice opted at the time of counseling registration (academic programs + campuses)
• The category of the candidate
• Seat intake in the college opted for admission
• NIFT 2026 merit rank of the candidate.

The result for NIFT 2026 Final Stage is expected to be out soon in May. Candidates must keep their credentials ready.
