Dr Jitendra Singh Praises IIT Bombay’s Quantum Advances, Opens India’s First Liquid Helium Cryogenic Facility
Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated India’s first Liquid Helium Cryogenic Facility and commended IIT Bombay for its advances in quantum sensing.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh, reaffirmed India commitment to advancing frontier technologies during his visit to IIT Bombay. He toured to Institute’s Quantum Research Laboratories and inaugurated its new Liquid Helium Facility. At Quantum Lab, he reviewed India’s first series of indigenous quantum sensing and imaging platforms, marking major step forward in national R&D. He also saw first homegrown Quantum Diamond Microscope (QDM), developed by IIT Bombay’s PQuest Group. Using NV centres in diamond, QDM enables nanoscale, 3D magnetic field imaging and has potential to transform applications in neuroscience, materials science and semiconductor diagnostics.
Following lab tour, he inaugurated new Liquid Helium Facility, calling it important national asset that will strengthen India’s capabilities in cryogenic engineering, quantum computing, healthcare technologies and green energy devices. He noted that unlike quantum technologies showcased earlier, this facility has not yet received DST support underscoring need for broader national collaboration to expand indigenous cryogenic infrastructure.
Dr. Singh said advancements at Quantum Lab along with new cryogenics facility reflect India’s rapid progress in next-generation science and technology. He added that IIT Bombays efforts show how academia, government and industry can work together to build world class scientific ecosystem for future.
