JEE Main 2022: How will less than four attempts impact students performance in exam
NTA will soon officially announce the number of JEE Mains 2022 attempts and exam dates on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
The Joint Entrance Examination (Main) is likely to have fewer attempts this year in comparison to 2021. As per various sources from the Ministry of Education, NTA had decided to conduct JEE Main 2022 in two sessions in April and May respectively. NTA is considering returning to the usual practice of organizing the exams in two attempts so that the academic session which had been delayed in 2020 and 2021 due to COVID starts on time this year.
The number of attempts was increased to four only in 2021 due to COVID conditions to provide multiple opportunities to students for appearing in the exam. The first two attempts were held in February and March while the third and fourth attempts were conducted in July and August. This benefited the students who had to appear in their class 12 board exams which were held in June-July.
Students are demanding that the number of JEE Mains 2022 attempts should also remain four this year as they have also faced similar challenges like the previous batches of 2020 and 2021. Schools and colleges had remained closed and classes were held in online mode. Several students have also claimed that their class 12 syllabus was not completed on time due to online classes and they had not been able to prepare for JEE Mains in a timely manner.
JEE Mains Two Attempts vs Four Attempts
As per various coaching experts, any number of attempts more than one will be very beneficial as it will increase students' chances of qualifying for the exam in the same year and students will not have to wait for another year. Also, students can analyze their performance, know their weak areas in the first attempt and improve their performance in the second or subsequent attempts.
Having two attempts might bring students under the pressure of performing well while four attempts will distribute the pressure. Also, two attempts could be as beneficial as four if students prepare for the exam in a timely manner and give their best in both attempts. Considering the competition and difficulty level of JEE Main, students need to focus more on completing the syllabus on time and preparing as per a strategy.
Rohan Rajput, a class 12 student says, “I had been studying for JEE Mains 2022 for last two years only through online mode as schools as well as coaching institutes were closed due to COVID. Online classes are not at all beneficial when it comes to doubt solving and one-on-one interaction with teachers and friends. NTA should provide four attempts to us so that we can appear in more sessions and increase our chances of scoring a good percentile.”
FIITJEE Director R.L. Trikha says, “having four attempts in JEE Mains are beneficial to students in many ways. Students get first-hand experience in the first attempt and come to know their weak areas which they can improve upon in subsequent attempts."
However, as the preparation, syllabus and pattern remain the same, having two attempts will also be as beneficial as four. Students just have to focus on completing their syllabus on time and solving mock test papers and not on how many attempts for JEE Mains 2022
