JEE Main Session 2 Result Out: Counselling and Admission Process

Now that the result is out, the JEE Main JoSAA counselling will be held for admission to the IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. Admission to IITs will be based on JEE Advanced ranks, and admission to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs is based on JEE Advanced results.

The candidates who have qualified for JEE Advanced can apply for the IIT JEE exam from April 23.

JEE Mains Cutoff 2026 for JEE Advanced Qualification - Highest in 8 Years

Every major category saw a rise in JEE Mains cutoff scores for JEE Advanced qualification compared to the previous year.

  • Unreserved (UR): Increased slightly from 93.10 to 93.41 (+0.33%).
  • Gen-EWS: Rose from 80.38 to 82.42 (+2.53%).
  • OBC-NCL: Increased from 79.43 to 80.92 (+1.88%).

Significant Growth in Reserved Categories: The SC and ST categories experienced the most substantial year-over-year growth.

  • ST Category: Saw the highest jump of 8.59%, moving from 47.90 in 2025 to 52.02 in 2026.

    1. Registration: Candidates have to register on the JoSAA website using JEE Main credentials.
    2. Choice Filling: Choice filling is to be done after completing the registration process. In this stage, candidates have to select courses and institutes of their choice.
    3. Seat Allotment: The JoSAA authority allots seats to candidates based on rank and choices filled by them.
    4. Seat Confirmation by Candidates/ Online Fee Payment/Institute Reporting: After seat allocation, candidates will have to confirm their admission by selecting the freeze/float option.     Highlights of JEE Main 2026 Session 2 Result

    • Unique candidates: A total of 16,04,854 unique candidates registered for the exam across both sessions, with 15,38,474 unique candidates actually appearing.
    • Number of candidates in session 1: The January Session (Session 1) saw 13,55,293 registrations and 13,04,653 attendees
    • Number of candidates in session 2: April Session (Session 2) recorded 11,10,904 registrations and 10,34,330 attendees.
    • Common candidates in sessions 1 and 2: 8,61,343 candidates registered for both sessions, and 8,00,516 of those common candidates appeared for both examinations.
    • Result withheld: 113 candidates did not get their results due to unfair means and incomplete documentation.
    • Number of candidates qualifying for JEE Advanced: 2,50,182 students have qualified for IIT JEE.
