The initiative is open to students from Jharkhand who have passed their Class 10 board examinations from JAC, CBSE, or ICSE boards.

The Jharkhand government has launched a new scheme to provide fully sponsored coaching to 300 Scheduled Tribe (ST) students preparing for competitive entrance exams like NEET and JEE. Announced by the state’s Welfare Department, the initiative targets meritorious students who have cleared Class 10 and are now pursuing higher secondary education, with the aim of improving their chances of entering medical and engineering colleges through national-level entrance tests.

Under the scheme, selected students will be offered free residential coaching, along with study materials, mock tests, and academic mentorship until the completion of Class 12. The initiative is open to students from Jharkhand who have passed their Class 10 board examinations from JAC, CBSE, or ICSE boards. The state will select reputed coaching institutions with proven success rates in NEET and JEE preparation through a formal tender process.

Chamra Linda, Minister of SC/ST and Backward Classes Welfare, said that the government is committed to ensuring that no talented tribal student is left behind due to lack of access to quality education and exam preparation. “This is not just coaching support, it’s an investment in future doctors and engineers from marginalised communities,” he said.

The move is being seen as a revival and restructuring of the earlier “Akanksha” scheme, which provided free coaching for multiple competitive exams. However, the current scheme has a narrower focus, targeting only NEET and JEE, and only ST students. Welfare department officials said that selected students will stay in residential campuses and continue their Class 11 and 12 education alongside coaching.

The scheme is expected to open applications soon, and eligible students will be notified through official channels. The coaching will begin in the 2025–26 academic session. Education activists have welcomed the decision, calling it a step toward equitable access to elite professional education for tribal youth.
