Universities will conduct final year exams, 1st and 2nd year students will be promoted: MHRD
While conducting the webinar, Mr Pokhriyal clearly stated that exams will be conducted for the final year students. However, the students of first-year and second-year will be promoted based on their performance in the previous years and internal marks.
The Human Resource and Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on May 28, 2020, conducted a live Webinar with more than 45,000 Higher Education Institutes and their head. During the online session, many professors extended their warm wishes and thanked the HRD Minister for all the support and help.
While conducting the webinar, Mr Pokhriyal clearly stated that exams will be conducted for the final year students. However, the students of first-year and second-year will be promoted based on their performance in the previous years and internal marks.
The minister added that the result for the first and second year's students will be declared by the universities on the basis of their previous exams and the internal assessment of this year. The University will consider the average of 50% marks of their previous exams + 50% marks in the internal assessment of this semester.
The minister said, "First year students will be promoted on the basis of internal assessment while second year students will be awarded marks on the basis on current year's internal assessment (50%) and 50% of previous year's marks. This arrangement will be effective only for those areas where conducting the examination would be difficult considering the safety of the students.”
Mr Pokhriya, while addressing thousands of Higher Education Insitutes said,"Students in the first semester to be promoted based on previous academic records while second-year students will be promoted based on 50% internal marks and 50% on the previous year or semester record. But final exams to take place. If the condition does not improve by July then the new dates will be released soon."
While talking about utilizing the lockdown period, the Minister said that around 4,70,000 students have downloaded the app for JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 practice. Considering the ongoing changing time, the government is also evolving and considering online education. Students in large number are being benefitted with e-learning portals such as Swayam, ePathshala, Diksha and more.
