Set to begin on March 29, 2025, the IIM Lucknow CHRO programme is aimed at senior HR professionals, including aspiring CHROs and business leaders with at least 10 years of experience.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, in collaboration with Emeritus, has launched a 9-month Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) programme with an aim to address critical leadership gaps in the Human Resources (HR) sector. This new initiative is designed to prepare HR professionals to align workforce strategies with business objectives amidst a rapidly evolving organisational landscape.

With the digitalisation of the workforce and shifting employee expectations, the programme comes at a crucial time. According to Gartner’s "Top 5 Priorities for HR Leaders in 2025" report, while 87% of HR leaders agree on the need for ongoing transformation, only 36% believe that existing leadership development programmes are adequate. This highlights the pressing need for a more robust, future-focused approach to HR leadership development.

Programme Structure and Focus Areas

Set to begin on March 29, 2025, the CHRO programme is aimed at senior HR professionals, including aspiring CHROs and business leaders with at least 10 years of experience. The curriculum is designed to address current leadership challenges within HR and equip participants with the tools to lead HR transformations.

The programme will consist of:

  • Live Online Learning: Weekly live sessions (3 hours) led by IIM Lucknow faculty.
  • Campus Immersion: A 4-day in-person immersion for in-depth learning, case studies, and networking.
  • Capstone Project: A hands-on project that focuses on solving real-world HR challenges.

Key focus areas will include:

  • Strategic HR Leadership: Crafting HR strategies that align with overall business goals.
  • Global Trends in HR: Understanding international HR dynamics and best practices.
  • C-suite Dynamics: Exploring the intersection of HR with other executive leadership roles.
  • Talent Strategy: Developing strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent.

By the end of the programme, participants will be equipped to develop sustainable workforce strategies, drive HR digitalisation, and enhance organisational agility.

Key Programme Details

  • Eligibility: Graduates or postgraduates with at least 50% aggregate and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
  • Duration: 9 months (a combination of online sessions and in-person campus immersion).
  • Fee: ₹4,52,000 + GST.
  • Certification: Participants who maintain 75% attendance will receive a certificate of completion and gain IIM Lucknow Executive Alumni status.

This new programme underscores the growing demand for specialised education tailored to HR leaders. As businesses face rapid changes in the workforce, HR professionals need to be equipped with advanced leadership skills that drive organisational growth and meet the evolving needs of a dynamic workforce.

By offering this specialised programme, IIM Lucknow and Emeritus aim to empower HR leaders to meet the challenges of modern workforce management and lead successful HR transformations in their organisations.

Q:   Can an average student get into an IIM?
A:

The answer to this question of whether an average student can get into IIM can be both yes and no depending on the definition of an average student.

  • Based on Academics (Class 10/ Class 12/ Graduation): While a student with average scores in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation with a good CAT score certainly has good chances of getting a call from IIM-A, chances are less for someone with an average CAT score.
  • Based on student category (General or Reserved): While it is tough for a General category average student to grab a seat at IIM due to high score requirements, a reserved category student can get admission being at average scores as well.
  • Based on past work experience, diversity and other factors: Gender and academic diversity is also a factor on which students are shortlisted at IIM. IIMs judge the past academic category based on the degree obtained by the students before MBA and then a weightage is allotted based on that. For Engineers, the percentage for scoring the highest marks is higher as compared with other streams
  • Performance in selection rounds: Once you make it to the final selection rounds, i.e., AWT/PI process, it can be considered a fresh start. At this stage, students can forget their past average-ness but definitely require good grasp over the past subjects as academics-related questions are asked in the interview.

Based on the above factors, it can be considered that while getting into top Management institutes, such as IIM is extremely tough, the past performance, CAT performance, student category and a lot of factors can be the reasons for a student to receive that final call.

Q:   Are Class 12 marks important for IIM Lucknow MBA admission?
A:

Yes, IIM Lucknow MBA admission is based on candidates' performance in their Class 12 marks along with other parameters. Indian Institute of Management Lucknow offers admission to its flagship PGP course on the basis of valid CAT scores, followed by a Written Ability Test and Personal Interview (WAT-PI) round. Candidates will be shortlisted for WAT-PI on the basis of their CAT 2024 score, previous academic performance, and other criteria.
