NEET 2025 exam pattern change was recently announced by the National Testing Agency. It came as a huge blow to aspirants who are preparing for the exam which is likely to be held in the first week of May 2025. With a few months left for the exam, it is difficult for students to change their NEET 2025 preparation strategy.
Instead of bringing in student-friendly changes in the NEET 2025 exam pattern, NTA has reversed the pattern and structure to that of the pre-COVID era wherein the exam was held for three hours duration and there were 180 compulsory questions.
NEET 2025 aspirants have vented out in various social media platforms about how it is going to be a challenge to complete the NEET 2025 question paper within 180 minutes, while they have been so far preparing and practicing to attempt the exam in 200 minutes. Let us take a look at the student reactions on NEET 2025 exam pattern change.
NEET Extra Duration was for Scanning Question Paper and Marking Attendance
Several candidates have expressed that the extra 20 minutes in the NEET exam helped them a great deal in terms of selecting which questions to attempt, mark their attendance and various other administrative works which would otherwise be time-consuming.
Some students have requested the NEET 2025 exam centre invigilators in advance to take their attendance and signature before or after the exam duration and not during that.
Reduction of NEET 2025 Exam Duration Means Rethinking Time Management
As students are already accustomed to practising the NEET mock tests or solving previous years’ question papers in 200 minutes, this change implies rethinking and redesigning their time management strategy for NEET 2025. The following snapshots reveal their anxiety.
As can be seen in the above student reactions, the removal of the optional questions has not impacted their preparation as the reduction in total duration has.
Taking NEET 2025 Pattern Change With a Pinch of Salt
Some candidates have taken the NEET 2025 exam pattern positively, and have predicted that this pattern will rule out the competition and only those students with a high caliber will get a sought after medical seat.
Last but not least, here is a comic approach towards the change of the NEET exam pattern.
The NEET 2025 exam will be conducted in paper-pencil-based mode for a single day and shift. The NEET 2025 syllabus was released earlier and there has not been any change in the topics or syllabus of NEET. It is expected that NTA will release the NEET 2025 application form and information bulletin anytime soon.
Yes, the NEET examination pattern suggests that there will be negative marking. For every incorrect answer, one mark will be deducted and 4 marks will be awarded for every correct answer. However, negative marking will not be applicable for the unattempted questions. Since there is a negative marking scheme for wrong answers, candidates must answer questions carefully and select the questions carefully which they are sure about the accuracy.
NTA has announced the change in the NEET 2025 exam pattern. The total number of questions and duration in minutes have been reduced from 200 to 180. The optional questions have been removed. NTA has announced that the NEET 2025 exam will be conducted in a paper-pencil-based mode and in a single day and shift, opposing the recommendations by the NEET expert committee, Some of the major changes implemented in NEET 2025 are as follows:
- Change in exam pattern: The NEET 2025 exam pattern has been revoked to that of the pre-COVID era. The optional questions have been removed and the duration has been reduced by 20 minutes.
- NEET 2025 official website URL: The NEET 2025 official website address has changed. Last year, the NEET official website URL was neet.ntaonline.in and this year, it is neet.nta.nic.in. Incidentally, this year's URL is the same as that of the previous year, i.e. NEET 2023.
- Implementation of APAAR ID: This year, NTA has implemented APAAR ID to the application process, wherein, if a candidate selects APAAR, then his/her past academic records are auto-populated to the NEET 2025 application form.
- Number and choice of NEET 2025 exam cities: The total number of NEET 2025 exam cities in India has been reduced from 557 to 552. On the other hand, candidates can select three instead of two exam cities.
- Change in Tie-Breaking Policy: There has been a change in the last criterion of the NEET 2025 tie-breaking policy. It says that in case, the first seven criteria are exhausted and the tie still persists, it will be resolved through a random process with the guidance of an independent expert committee.
- Change in NEET 2025 Question Paper Code and Sets: Unlike previous years, wherein the code of each NEET question paper was alphanumeric, this year the sets were only in numbers. Moreover, there were only four sets and no subsets.
