Schools in Delhi to reopen from November 1 for all classes, physical attendance voluntary
Physical attendance is voluntary and parents will not be forced to send their wards to the schools as the classes will be conducted in a hybrid mode with both in-person and online classes being held simultaneously.
Delhi School Reopening: Schools across the national capital have been allowed to reopen for offline classes from Monday; i.e. November 1, 2021. Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia after a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) announced that schools in the national capital can now reopen for all classes from November 1.
However, physical attendance is voluntary and parents will not be forced to send their wards to the schools as the classes will be conducted in a hybrid mode with both in-person and online classes being held simultaneously, he said.
Delhi Education Minister, Manish Sisodia tweeted, "All the schools and educational institutes shall be allowed to be opened, for all the classes, in Delhi from 1st Nov. However, schools shall also continue online classes for the students who are not willing to attend classes offline."
He also said that at any given point in time no more than 50 percent of the students will be called to attend physical classes. Schools will need to ensure that 100 percent of their staff is vaccinated.
Earlier, the DDMA constituted panel had recommended the schools should reopen for Classes 6 to 8 in Delhi with 50 per cent students strength. The move comes after it was noticed that no instances of COVID-19 transmission have been reported due to the reopening of classes 9 to 12, as per the minutes of a DDMA meeting.
During the 25th meeting of DDMA, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, who chaired the meeting, had announced that a decision regarding the reopening of schools for classes 6 to 8 will be taken after the festival season. The panel has been constituted to come up with a detailed plan and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for reopening schools. The panel also noted that attendance of senior class students has increased up to 80 per cent, and around 95 per cent of teachers and school staff have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
