National Awards to Teachers 2025: 21 Faculty Members Selected; Karnataka & Madhya Pradesh Lead

The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education has selected 21 teachers from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025. Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh top the list with maximum awardees.

The Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education (DoHE), has announced the selection of 21 teachers from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Polytechnics across the country for the National Awards to Teachers (NAT) 2025.

The NAT awards, Instituted in 2023 has been extended beyond school teachers to include faculty members of HEIs and Polytechnics under the vision of NEP 2020, which emphasizes rewarding excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and outreach.

This year’s awardees represent 12 States and UTs along with Central Universities, IITs, IIMs, and Polytechnics. Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh lead the tally with 3 awardees each, followed by Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Telangana with 2 each.

The selection process for national teachers award involved a two-step evaluation—screening by a Preliminary Committee followed by assessment by a National Jury. Parameters included Teaching-Learning Effectiveness, Research & Innovation, Outreach, Sponsored Research, and Faculty Development, with greater weightage on learning outcomes and community outreach.
