The Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) said that over 50,000 students have pledged in Thiruvananthapuram to preserve the environment and public property.
The campaign to raise awareness of environment and fundamental duties witnessed more than 50,000 school children signing an online declaration form to preserve the environment and be committed to the fundamental duties provided in Article 51 A of the Constitution.
"The Legal awareness campaign, jointly organized by the Kerala State Legal Services Authority and the Thiruvananthapuram District Legal Services Authority, has now reached 50,000 families through children," KSLSA said in a release.
The pledge was initiated on October 2 by Justice Bhatti as part of 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The campaign was started in Thiruvananthapuram and the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) will take it forward to all other districts in the state.
“The children will take the pledge not to litter public places, get involved in the segregation of waste at home and protect and conserve water bodies. They will also declare their compassion for all landscapes, forests and wildlife. They shall also pledge to support environmental protection and reduce pollution,” Bhatti said, as reported by The Hindu.
At a function in Thiruvananthapuram, KSLSA honoured the 50,000th signatory of the campaign, Muhammad Shifan, a student of the Government Higher Secondary School.
KSLSA is the statutory body and among the various state Legal Services Authorities in India established under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987. It offers free legal services to the people in Kerala.
