The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) and General Nurse Midwife(GNM) exam is conducted by the state exam-conducting bodies. In states, there are Boards, Universities and Nursinng Councils which conduct the ANM and GNM exam. There is no centralised exam which is conducted pan-India. Admission to the ANM and GNM programmes is not entirely based on the entrance exams. Find out all about the it here.

ANM GNM 2026 Dates: The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife and General Nurse Midwife exams are conducted by the state-level exam conducting bodies. In some states there are Universities such as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University, which conduct the UP CNET exam. In some states, there are examination boards such as the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board, which conduct the West Bengal ANM and GNM exam.
Some states have the State Nursing Council, which conducts their ANM/GNM exam. The most important point to note here is that all these exams are conducted in May/June. These exams are notified in April by almost all the states. The candidates can see here the important dates of the ANM/GNM exams conducted across the nation.
Currently, WB ANM GNM 2026 exam date is available. The entrance exam for West Bengal ANM GNM will be held on June 14, 2026. The UP CNET exam was conducted on June 6 and its result will be released soon.
The nursing council of each state conducts the ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) and GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) and announce the schedules. All About ANM GNM Admission Process 2026
Admission to the ANM GNM programme is not entirely based on the entrance exams. Some states accept the score of the candidates secured in the NEET UG exam or the Class 12th merit. They conduct a counselling process based on the merit secured. Candidates can refer to the complete details for each state by visiting the official website, as mentioned below. Comprehensive guidelines ranging from eligibility criteria, important event dates, the application process, and admission guidelines will be mentioned there. In addition, candidates will also find the list of ANM colleges and GNM colleges separately for their reference. The state conducting body has even bifurcated the colleges between government and private entities.

The WB ANM/GNM exam 2025 was held on October 19, 2025. The exam will be conducted in offline mode at the designated test centres in West Bengal. Each candidate will be provided with an OMR sheet. Candidates will have to darken the responses to choose the correct answer. Once a response is marked, it cannot be edited/changed/erased/modified. The entrance exam is conducted once a year by the exam-conducting body.
The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board conduct the WB ANM GNM exam once every year. In 2026, the West Bengal ANM GNM was held on June 14, 2026.

Candidates can pursue the BSc nursing course after completing the ANM and GNM degrees. This stream provides a comprehensive knowledge of the nursing domain and its relevance in hospital management and patient care. It is a four-year UG-level programme for which several entrance exams are conducted by leading institutes such as AIIMS nursing, PGIMER nursing, CMC Vellore nursing, and UP CNET, among others.
