Candidates can refer below to see the ANM Frequently Asked Questions.

Q:   What does ANM nurse do?
A:

There are plenty of different tasks ANM nurses take on, though not to mention the main ones above, offering primary health services to individuals or communities. They are trained in the administration of drugs, dressing of wounds, and first-aid.
ANM Nurses also assist in the management of chronic diseases by following up on vital signs and dispensing prescribed medications. Furthermore, ANM Nurses are involved in health assessment and screening. The nurses do a physical examination, collect specimens for diagnostic testing, and obtain a patient's medical history. ANM Nurses play a key role in maternal and child healthcare, too.
Beyond this, ANM Nurses take part in community health programs by organizing immunization campaigns and health awareness sessions. ANM Nurses work together for all-round care to the patient along with other professionals.

Q:   What is the role of ANM in breastfeeding?
A:

The ANM must make sure that breastfeeding begins within an hour of delivery or birth, whether it's a hospital childbirth or a home birth. To ensure optimal birth spacing, she must arrange with the mother at the time of discharge and follow the essential measures for family planning counselling.

The expectant mother and her family must be advised to have the delivery handled at home by a skilled birth attendant such as an ANM, Staff Nurse, or Doctor if there is no operating health centre or hospital within reach or if the family prefers a home delivery.

Q:   What is the full form of the ANM diploma?
A:

The ANM full form is ‘Auxiliary Nurse Midwife’. The ANM diploma is a program that trains individuals in Nursing and midwifery skills to assist in healthcare services, particularly in rural or community health settings.

Q:   What are the best books for ANM course?
A:

Here's the list of some books recommended for ANM students to help them grab more knowledge in their respective field:

  • Communicative English for Nursing Professionals by Mary T. David.
  • Nursing and Multi-Professional Practice by Janet McCray.
  • Parish Nursing: Promoting Whole Person Health within Faith Communities by Phyllis Ann Solari-Twadell
  • Management of Nursing Services and Education, 3rd Edition by I. Clement.
Q:   Why choose the ANM Nursing course?
A:

The applicants for ANM must know what the pros of joining such a popular course are. These are enlisted as follows:

  • This can be attributed to the fact that the world's population needs much more medical workers, which creates the need for increased medical care. Therefore, nurses are always in demand for various hospitals and healthcare facilities.
  • With an RN, the jobs are unlimited. Any field of interest—be it trauma or wound care—is available to one for specializing in it.
  • As a legal nursing consultant, one may also be writers, educators, or researchers in Nursing.
  • A nurse gains a lot of flexibility and ease. One is able to work full- or part-time or even temporary shifts.
  • Nursing is a highly regarded and one of the most respected professions in the world. Nurses are the basic link between a doctor and his patient.
Q:   What kind of first-aid, maternal health, or community care skills are taught in ANM?
A:

As an ANM student, you'll learn all the basic Nursing skills to help you assist patients and doctors in times of need. You'll learn about first aid, like wound care, bandaging, taking care of minor injuries, etc.

Maternal Health skills include pre- and post-pregnancy care for mothers and children, like you'll be assisting with deliveries and postnatal care.

And finally, Community Health means you'll be taking care of underserved communities, like raising healthcare awareness among them, assisting in vaccination camps, etc.

Q:   Is it possible to upgrade from ANM to GNM or BSc Nursing later?
A:

You can pursue a BSc in Nursing or GNM, after you complete your ANM course. But, you'll need to fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the colleges to get admission to these programs. For instance, Class 12 with the Science (PCB) stream, if you want to pursue a BSc Nursing course. All the best!

Q:   Can male candidates apply for this course? If yes, when will the batch begin?
A:

I doubt. ANM course is specifically designed for female students, but there may be some colleges are permitted to offer ANM course to male students. You must research and check the eligibility criteria for those colleges, first. Though GNM is a good alternate for male students who cannot pursue an ANM course.

Q:   What does staff nursing mean? Does ANM and GNM come under staff nursing?
A:

First and foremost, any person holding a degree or diploma in Nursing, normally a course of at least three years duration, comes under the category of a staff nurse and is known as GNM. In other words, a staff nurse, or GNM, performs certain tasks as instructed by the doctors, like conducting deliveries and assisting in several other medical procedures.
ANM, however, though related to nursing, is different. Those who finish the almost-two-year course in ANM are not considered staff nurses because their scope of practice is much different; it largely involves fieldwork.
For GNM, the nurses are involved in clinical practice. An ANM does fieldwork or site-based responsibilities. ANMs take charge of immunizations, maintaining health pregnancy records, and registering other health-related records.

Q:   Can a registered nurse or ANM administer vaccination to children by visiting their homes in urban areas?
A:

House visits by healthcare workers, including registered nurses and ANMs, for vaccination drives or health checks are often carried out in urban settings by the government as part of the health initiative or certain healthcare programs. This will streamline vaccination coverage and healthcare accessibility to the children and families in case of heavily urbanized settings.
Who can give vaccinations is governed by specific regulations in the country of India, especially in the larger urban areas, which vary by state policies or differing health guidelines.
Normally, in urban areas, registered nurses and ANMs are likely to have the power or the authority to provide vaccination to children by visiting the children at home. This is more common to government health programs or under the umbrella of healthcare facilities.

Q:   Is ANM and BSc Nursing the same?
A:

No, a BSc Nursing and an ANM are not equivalent. ANM, or Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery, is a Diploma programme that concentrates on educating nurses for positions as community health professionals. Students learn how to maintain medical equipment, set up an operating room, promptly give patients their medications, and maintain patient records in small communities in this course. The programme is primarily concerned with fundamental instruction.

A four-year undergraduate degree plan in nursing is known as the BSc Nursing. Anyone who has successfully finished a nursing Diploma (ANM or GNM) or who has completed class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology topics is qualified to apply for the curriculum. The primary goal of the BSc Nursing programme is to equip students to provide medical care for the ill and injured, hence the curriculum includes courses in Biochemistry, Nutrition, Anatomy, Physiology, Psychology, and other subjects.
