FAQs Regarding GNM Course

Q. What is the GNM course?

A. General Nursing Midwifery, often known as GNM, is a three-and-a-half-year diploma programme in Nursing. After passing their class 12 test in the Science stream, students who want to pursue a GNM diploma can move further. The three years and half-long programme require an internship for six months. One of the types of courses that can be used as a springboard to a career in nursing is the GNM diploma programme. GNM diploma holders can begin their careers by working in public and private hospitals and clinics.

The average cost of a GNM diploma programme in India is between 20,000 and 1.5 lakh rupees per year. This may change depending on the norms of the universities/colleges. Numerous institutions in India offer the GNM diploma, and admission is based on both merit and entrance exams.

Q. Who can do the GNM course?

A. Candidates who desire to work in medicine have access to GNM. Candidates must engage in this course if they want to work as nurses, midwives, or assistants in society. If candidates have compassion for assisting people and want to work with medical professionals to treat them, they can join the GNM Nursing programme.

Candidates must also have completed their Class 12 in English and have obtained a minimum combined score of 40% in both the qualifying test and English separately from any recognised board. Candidates accepted by the National Institute of Open Schools (NIOS), approved by the Central Government, and State Open Schools recognised by the State Government are also eligible.

Q. What are the benefits of the GNM course?

A. Since there is a chronic shortage of skilled nurses, it is projected that demand will rise significantly during the following several years. So, obtaining a nursing degree from a respected nursing college could result in exciting employment options.

  • In the Nursing industry, the candidate's ability to progress professionally is unrestricted. In other words, a nurse's pay is based on the quality of the medical care they provide.
  • Being a nurse is one of the professions with the most freedom.
  • Nurses can earn respectable annual salary packages. It's a profession that provides a significant return on investment.
  • There is a strong demand for nurses to care for individuals who are ill or injured across the country, from urban to rural locations. As a result, candidates can choose where they want to work as a nurse.
  • Along with pride, nurses typically feel some level of respect and aplomb from their fellow professionals.

Q. Can I do a GNM course without Science?

A. Candidates can enrol in a GNM course as a student from any stream (with or without Science). GNM, or General Nursing and Midwifery, is a 3-year, 6-month programme for those who want to specialise in Clinical Nursing. The minimal requirement for this course is a grade of 12 from any stream and a minimum score of 40% on the prerequisite tests. Candidates must have English in their Class 12 curriculum as the only criterion.

Q. Which is better - GNM or BSc Nursing?

A. A four-year undergraduate degree curriculum in BSc Nursing is available. A student is qualified for admission to the BSc Nursing programme if they have finished Class 12 in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with 45% of the possible points from any recognised board or institution. The programme creates skilled Nursing professionals through a superb integration of theoretical and practise study.

A six-month internship is part of the three-and-a-half-year diploma programme in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM). A student is eligible for the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) degree if they have finished Class 12 in any stream with 45% of the recommended marks from any recognised board or institution. Students who complete the course are prepared to care for individuals, families, and communities.

Undoubtedly, the BSc Nursing programme is superior to General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) if one wants to have a successful career in the healthcare sector. In terms of career growth, future education opportunities, and financial compensation, a BSc Nursing degree is more valuable than a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) programme.

Q. What is the scope after GNM?

A. In the Indian and international healthcare sectors, nursing and medical care are in high demand. The scope of the GNM for recent graduates is increased by the student's education. For Nursing graduates, there are several employment openings in GNM Nursing across various industries.

Nursing students can join Nursing professionals or institutions with the State Nursing Registration Council after completing the programme. The courses cover patient treatment, rehabilitation, and care. Other information about the GNM nursing programme includes the fact that students are specifically taught how to support doctors during the most important patient treatment procedures.

Present-day GNM degree holders have access to a number of employment opportunities in the healthcare sector. They can advance their careers in the nursing sector by working as home nurses, health visitors, community health workers, primary health workers, or rural health workers.

Q. Which type of Nursing job is best?

A. The following list mentioned the top Nursing job profiles in India (in no particular order):

  • Certified registered nurse anaesthetist
  • Dean of Nursing
  • General nurse practitioner
  • Certified nurse midwife
  • Paediatric Nurse
  • Staff Nurse

Q. Is GNM hard to study?

A. There is no denying the difficulty of GNM courses. There is a lot of stuff to learn, the tests are challenging, the timetables are complicated, and the homework keeps coming. All of these elements could make life difficult for you as a student. The nursing field is quite competitive from the time you begin the application process until you graduate.

A lot of information and work is required for Nursing school. New issues present fresh opportunities for learning. Once you begin Nursing college, going to the doctor, viewing medical documentaries, and considering what to look for on a prescription label will all take on entirely new meanings.

Q. Which Nursing job profile is highly paid?

A. Senior Staff Nurse is the Nursing position with the highest salary.

A Senior Staff Nurse oversees and directs junior staff nurses and nursing students to ensure that patients receive the best care possible. She also manages nursing care for patients.

To make sure that they adhere to the hospital's best practice care standards, they supervise a group of registered nurses and care assistants. In accordance with the needs of the patients and the hospital's policies and procedures, senior registered nurses also administer and order medications. The person should be extremely motivated, analytical, perceptive, organised, and an excellent team player with leadership skills.
