Patna University has a total of 10 constituent colleges. Patna University through its 31 departments, constituent colleges and 4 other institutes offers a wide array of UG, PG, diploma, certificate and doctoral level programmes in the fields of Science, Education, Humanities, Law, Commerce, and many other streams. Candidates need to complete Class 12 to apply for UG programmes. A minimum of graduation is required to apply for PG programmes. 

Scholarships are available from VBSPU to applicants from low-income households. They receive scholarships to help with their financial needs and to motivate them to continue their education. VBSPU Jaunpur offers scholarships on the basis of merit which varies from course to course. Kalyani University admission to most of the courses are offered via scores of various state/ national-level entrance exams. However, the university does not conduct any entrance exams on its own, but it accepts a few state/ national-level entrances conducted by West Bengal state. These include WBJEE, WB JECA, WB JEMAT, CAT, MAT, GATE, etc., for admission to BTech, MCA, MBA and M.Tech programmes. For courses such as BCom, BA, BSc, MA, etc., direct admissions are offered to candidates based on their scores obtained in the previous qualifying exam. Mahatma Jyotirao Phule University has good placement record for M.Sc programmes. About 80% of students get selected, with the highest salary reported to be around 20 LPA and the lowest around 5 LPA. PGIMER Chandigarh accepts its own entrance exam for admisssion to M.Sc courses. However, admission to other PG courses such as MD/ MS/ M.Ch/ DM at PGIMER Chandigarh is done on the basis of score in INI CET followed by counseling. PGIMER Chandigarh conducts its own entrance exam for admission to other UG, PG, and Doctoral courses. The total seat intake for M.Sc at PGIMER Chandigarh is 25 seats.
