This is one of the most important issue faced by a young student. Unfortunately it's only few states that treat Diploma as equivalent to 12th. IITs too treat Diploma as equivalent to 12th but NIT's don't. May be there is a need to start a movement for this.

Some companies in India are already in the business of manufacture of assemblies of aircraft in India. These are mostly concentrated around Bangalore and Hyderabad. Tata Technologies, Alpha Systems, Mahindra etc. Also HAL, BEML in PSU category are also employ Diploma holders.
