Aircraft Maintenance Engineering and Aeronautical engineering courses are different. AME means one would be trained in the maintainance activities of aircraft and which should lead to a job with an airline. Of course, one needs to obtain a liscence from DGCA for working in India. Aeronautical Engineering on the other hand is a different cup of tea. It teaches you different aspects of a flying object. IIT-Mumbai is the best option for AE. For AME, there are plenty of colleges in each state.

Yes, you can. Just follow the procedure of your state for admission under lateral entry scheme.

There are different ways of joining IAF. But joining it does not mean that you will become an aeronautical engineer. You can also appear for the NDA entrance exam conducted by UPSC. After graduation, you can appear for CDS exam conducted by UPSC. And if you are already an engineer, then you can join an engineering branch of IAF.

the eligibility for AME is 10+2 with PCM. Hence, if you have done Diploma after 10th then I am afraid, you are in trouble unless the college offering AME accepts Diploma as equivalent to 12th. Dear Chandra! Please mention for which college you are asking about! From my opinion, you should go for Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology, Kerala. This is indeed the best college for Space Science Education. This is the first college in Asia which provides a complete package of Space Science Education from Bachelors to Doctorate. Cut offs for admissions differ from state to state for different branches of Engineering. In many states, if you have a valid score, you are sure to get admission in some college.
