Cut off in CET has not much relevance since private colleges in Karnataka have their own entrance exam and it is seen from past experience that there are wide variations in it over the years. So aim for obtaining the highest marks and leave rest to fate.

Theoretically speaking, both are similar courses. Proportion of placements vis-a-vis pass out is similar in both branches. However in India core jobs for aeronautical engineering graduates are very less. They changeover to software or do MBA or go abroad. They are not employable on main of civil aircraft since it requires DGCA license. I would therefore recomend mechanical engineering as compared with aeronautical engineering.

In case you have failed to clear JEE Mains then don't get disheartened. There are many private universities which are no less than the government universities. They offer the same quality education and better facilities than many of the government institutions. Most of the private universities like LPU, VIT, SRM, etc. have made name for themselves for quality education, good placements, good faculty, etc. They admit students on different criteria like +2 marks, JEE marks and their own test scores. Fees in this college was around Rs.40T per semester. But fees have a habit of increasing every year. Hence i would advise you to check with the college about change if any.
