Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi was inaugurated by Late Smt. Indira Gandhi former Prime Minister of India on June 26, 1981. It is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). It offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses in Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry, Agricultural, and Forestry.
BAU Ranchi cut off is based on the marks decided by the University and the number of candidates appeared for exam. Candidates must have passed 10+2 with 50% marks to apply for further admission process.

According to the university board Students are admitted in unreserved and various reserved categories strictly on the basis of merit in the respective category through an entrance examination as per the reservation rules of Jharkhand state. Semester system of education is followed in the University.
