As a commerce student wanting to transition into Computer Science courses, you have the following options.

You can do a BSc Computer Science. Note that some universities require you to have a maths background for that.

You can go for BCA. Again, make sure you meet the college requirements, as some may require you to have Computer Science and Maths in class 12.

Though engineering courses accept admissions from a science background only. Sometimes after a BCA/BSc, you may be eligible for lateral entry into the second year of a BTech. This totally depends on the flexibility of the college guidelines.

The University of Melbourne MSc in Computer Science duration is 2 years. The first-year fee for this programme is AUD 53,792 (INR 30 Lakh) for 2024. Given below are the University of Melbourne admission requirements for MSc in CS:

  • An UG degree or equivalent with a major is Computer Science with weighted average mark of minimum 75%
  • At least 25 points (two subjects) of university-level Statistics and Mathematics subjects
  • ELP test scores: IELTS with 6.5 score / TOEFL with overall 79+ score / PTE with 64+ score (with no Communicative skill less than 60)

The UPSC Engineering Services Examination Notification states that - a candidate must have earned an engineering degree from a university established by an act of the Central or State Legislature in India, from another educational institution founded by an act of Parliament, or from a university declared to be deemed a university under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, to be eligible to take the exam. 

The candidate must, however, choose any one of the four subjects - civil, mechanical, electrical, or electronics - for which they wish to take the exam.

Yes, CSE students are eligible for the IES exam. However, the candidate must select any one of the four subjects for which the student wants to write exam in like civil, mechnical, electrical, electronics. Also, candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology from a recognized university or institution to be eligible.

The following are the essential eligibility requirements for pursuing a Computer Science Engineering course at the undergraduate and graduate levels:

  • BTech in CSE applicants must have taken the Class 12 exam from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as core subjects.
  • Candidates must also have a minimum aggregate mark of 60% in the above subjects combined.
  • MTech in CSE eligibility requirements: Applicants must have completed a BTech degree in the same specialisation with a passing percentage.

Fitchburg State Univ. MS in CS admission requirements are given below:

  • An official transcript of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institute is required
  • Though there is no specific discipline required for admission, the preference is given to applicants with undergraduate majors in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field of study
