You have done Diploma in automobile engineering or are about to finish it. I would advise you to approach an agency who is dealing in sending students abroad for engineering studies. I feel you will have to go there for undergraduate studies for a full course since lateral admission will not work in that country based on Diploma but perhaps you are already aware of it. It is very nice to know that you are interested to continue your studies and take up course for graduation in engineering after completion of your Diploma. It is good. After completion of Diploma a student can get admitted into second year of engineering directly under what is called as lateral method of admission. As to your query I can say with certainty that there is no lag whatsoever. The moment you finish your Diploma you can apply through the portal of directorate of technical education of your state for registering your name for lateral admission in Engineering. You will need to upload your mark list and depending on your state may be appear for an entrance exam. If the exam is there then the marks of exam will determine your merit and if there is no exam then the marks of your Diploma with decide the merit and depending on the merit you will get admission in a college of your choice as per the list.
