GATE counselling will be conducted by two different bodies Common Offer Acceptance Portal COAP and Centralised Counselling for M.Tech CCMT for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and CFTIs. There is no centralised counselling process for GATE. Candidates who will qualify the GATE exam can participate in the counselling procedure conducted by these two separate bodies for admission to participating institutes. For state university like Osmania GATE counselling is done by the university itself as per the application received.

In VIT-Vellore, it is not possible to get CSE or Mech branch but in VIT Chennai definitely, you will get one of these. I should tell you one thing if you are going to VIT then do not take admission in the Vellore campus. The Chennai campus will become far better than the Vellore campus coming near future, in any aspects you think
As study wise, campus wise, teaching wise, and I said in aspects you think. I am speaking with experience.

No, it is not necessary to clear JEE Advanced to get admission to NITs (National Institutes of Technology). Admissions to NITs are based on the JEE Main scores, which is a separate exam. However, NITs also consider JEE Advanced scores for a limited number of seats under their direct admission of students abroad (DASA) scheme.

All the IIT aspirants have to sit for JEE Main and afterward, JEE Advanced. Only the top 2, 24,000 scores in JEE Main will become eligible to sit for JEE Advanced. The candidates must have secured at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th Class Examination conducted by respective boards.
