Hi,
No, they are not the same. GATE exam can be given only by those candidates who have applied science degrees like B.E and B.Tech, to M.Tech and M.Sc by research integrated Ph.D. and direct Ph.D. program. IIT JAM (Joint Entrance Test for M.Sc) is an all-India entrance exam that allows candidates to apply for IITs, IISERs, IISc, and NITs. But with 79 percentile it is sure that you can Get any NIT or IIIT if you belong from other state. But still as per your percentile score you can try in HBTI Kanpur. Or better go with some other private institutions like Kalinga Institute of Industrial technology or CV Raman Global University.

Hello MN Sahi, I can understand your angst and anxiety. However only national testing agency has the data to find out percentile. No one else can find it out. But if you want, you can extrapolate your marks and percentile if earlier attempt to find percentile from marks of this session. But have patience. In about a week's time NTA will publish results. Best wishes to you.

Hello Aneesh Babu, you indeed have obtained quite good percentile. Last year the cutoff for OBC-NCL was just above 72. If same continues this year, I am sure that you can get admission in one of the NIT's. Be that as it may, I would like to advise you to appear for further sessions of JEE Mains to improve your percentile. This time it should be fun since you can not loose anything!
Best wishes to you.

If your rank belongs to AEEE than chances of getting admission here are high in B.Tech CSE or ECE branches etc. Under state quota.

The state quota AEEE ranks below the 15000 can be the safe for getting admission in CSE in year 2017. So your chances are very less here.
