You have to wait till you give your exams and get the results. You need to give entrance exams for engineering like JEE Main & Advanced, CET, COMEDK, IIST etc. After the counselling session, you can apply to your preferred university. You can take up online entrance exams like university-GAUGE which will allow you to apply to several leading deemed & private universities across India. Once your rank is out, wait for counseling and then fill the colleges in the priority you want to go to.
But at this time, I would suggest you to work hard and try to score as much marks as you can. "Do not shrink yourself to not only try, may be you will get a good IIT also.
Best of luck.

Qualifying in JEE Mains or getting admission in NIT will not guarantee you a free seat or scholarship. You will have to check on rules before taking admission since rules may differ from college to college.

GATE is an entrance exam for admission to PG courses. Hence this exam will not get you any job at undergraduate level. But many institutions accept GATE score in lieu of examination and call up candidates directly for interviews.

It's very heartening to know your dream of appearing for JEE. Let me point out that, syllabus for JEE Mains is same as that of 12th of CBSE. There is absolutely no difference. Hence books prescribed by CBSE for their students are the best for JEE Mains. JEE Advanced is totally different cup of tea. Here too syllabus is same but questions are invariably original and are based on concepts. Hence rather than mugging up answers, understanding of concepts is a must.
