You should write "2017" as the year of your first-year appearance if you are filling out a form or creating a document that asks you to specify your year of appearance for B.Tech. According to the B.Tech duration of 20172021, you began your B.Tech degree in 2017 and finished it in 2021. You would have taken your first-year exams in 2017 if you were a regular student. For your first year of B.Tech, you should therefore list "2017" as your appearance year.
