Although, DU SOL is 23 years older than IGNOU, yet the latter has an edge over the former in the following ways:
- DU SOL has limited courses to offer as compared to IGNOU provides a wide range of courses which are more than 200 in number
- In DU SOL, the students are required to go to classes and exam centres assigned strictly by the university. Whereas IGNOU provides the facility to select the nearest location so that it’s easy for the students to commute
- The DU SOL degree does not have the same value as that of IGNOU when it comes to studying abroad. IGNOU has recognised well across Asia and in many commonwealth countries

IGNOU students, who belong to the SC/ ST/ OBC/ Minority/ PWD categories, may be eligible for fee waiver/ exemption/ reimbursement/ scholarship schemes offered by the MHRD/ UGC/ various state governments/ government departments depending upon the eligibility criteria of the students. For eligibility and procedural details, interested students should contact the concerned agencies. Students of IGNOU can collect the scholarship forms from the Directorate of Social Welfare (DSE) or the office of the Social Welfare Officer (SWO) in their state, fill them out, and submit them to the Regional Director at the Regional Centre where they are admitted/registered for the programme. In the next step, the Regional Director will then certify the forms. After certification, the students can collect the forms from the Regional Centre and resubmit them to the Social Welfare Officer or Directorate of Social Welfare in their state for scholarship or reimbursement of programme fees.

IGNOU results for PhD admission are out on the official website of the institute. Candidates who have at least 50% aggregate in the entrance test (45% aggregate in case of SC/ ST/ OBC (Non Creamy layers)/ Differently abled persons) are shortlisted for the interview subject to the maximum limit of five times of the available seats. The entrance test carries a weightage of 70% and 30% weightage is allocated to the interview/ viva.

The total tuition fee for B.Ed at IGNOU is INR 55,000. This information is sourced from official website/ sanctioning body and is subject to change. For more details, students are advised to contact the admission office. Although, in the fee, a non-refundable registration fee of INR 200 (unless specified otherwise) shall be charged along with the programme fee for the first semester/ year at the time of admission.
