The modes of IIT Kharagpur course admissions are online and offline. Admission to various courses is based on merit and scores of entrance tests. The accepted entrance exams are GATE, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and others. Candidates must first visit the JEE Main website. Then appear for the JEE Main exams. Then take part in the counselling round and with valid scores pay the admission fee in the selected and the allotted college.

Direct admissions are not possible for courses offered at IIT Kharagpur. The accepted entrance exams are JEE Advanced, JEE Main, and others. The latest cutoff regarding M.Tech in Infrastructure Design and Management offered by IIT Kharagpur for 2024 has yet to come out. Based on previous year's cutoffs, for the general category, in 2023, they were around 611; for the OBC candidates, 371.
