For getting admission in nits, you need to participate in JoSAA counselling through JEE Mains official website. For getting admission in IITS, you need to clear JEE advance and appear in IIT JEE counselling. First you just need to register yourself as per your college choices at the time of counselling. Yes, it is necessary to get qualify marks for getting seat NITs, IIITs amd GFTIs. Even though they are the marks decided to write JEE Advanced you must get more than qualifying marks to get seat in any NIT. Category rank was not helpful in this criteria.
