As your rank is also not good go get admission into any IITs, so you must have to do something either taking a drop or taking admission into some of the private colleges.

Generally, the cut-off for preparatory course is less than general cut-off.

JEE Mains qualified students are eligible for admission into NITs and GFITs only.
Now chances for VIT-Pune is in your range. Do try for VIT-Pune.

As per the market demand and jobs, you would get more opportunities in civil engineering. Petroleum engineering is a good field and has a good growth but job market comparison to other branches is less specially in India.
