The Indian Institutes of Technology ( IIT) are autonomous public institutes of higher education. IITs are located at Bhilai, Madras, Delhi, Dhanbad, Dharwad, Goa, Guwahati, Jammu, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Bombay, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Mandi, Palghat, Patna, Ropar, Tirupati and Varanasi.
IIT are the most sought after technical Institutes in India with international fame and brand. The IITs have a common admission process for undergraduate admissions, called JEE Mains & JEE Advanced. Students for IIT are selected on the basis of JEE Advanced. Admission to Postgraduates degrees in IIT are by GATE, JAM and CAT for engineering, Science and Management degrees respectively.
