Masters degree in Geography or Earth Systems Sciences or in any stream of social science
Minimum of 55% or equivalent marks at the level of graduation.
SC/ST/OBC students must score a minimum of 50% marks
In some reputed colleges above 60% of marks in their masters degree are eligible candidates to apply for this course.

Candidate must have passed the PG or equivalent examination from a recognized state/private/deemed or central University with at least 55% (45% to 50% for reserved category candidates) of the marks.
- He/She shall not be having any backlog or compartment in any of the subject/Subjects at PG level that is yet to be cleared at the time of taking admissions.

For M.Phil and Ph.D courses, candidates must possess a post-graduate degree in the relevant stream. Also, check the detailed eligibility criteria for PhD offered at Madras University.
The university conducts entrance examination for selection of candidates to the research programs. Candidates who have cleared UGC/CSIR NET are exempted from appearing in the entrance examination.

Can I do a correction? Doctoral degree i.e. PhD is higher in heirarchy than MPhil. Hence if you are already a PhD the best course for you is to do PhD in another topic rather than MPhil.
