When students get into engineering most of them entered without knowing what they like or what they want to do for the rest of their lives. When engineering got over, most have still not figured this out, so they get into a job or go for further studies. There are two obvious higher studies choices post engineering - MS from US or MBA. Some go for M.Tech. I can safely say that majority of the students have still not figured out what they want to do for the rest of their lives. However by the end of engineering and for those who join some job, in first couple of years of their career, people vaguely identify what they are good at and what they don't like.
Some advantages of MBA after Engineering:
MBA stresses on building soft skills, which is one of the most important life skill.
MBA buys two more years for people to figure where they want to take their future lives. There are some for whom MBA is an answer to killing some more time, to avoid getting married, or running away from responsibilities for a little while longer. MBA becomes pivotal in opening up alternate career paths for many who completed engineering grudgingly, or got bored of corporate job as an engineer. Some people who do executive MBA or a short term MBA along with their jobs, do it to skill themselves in areas that will help them grow further. My personal opinion is that an engineer MBA does exceptionally well in individual contributor role. If after MBA someone joins a job in the same domain as her engineering degree, they gain respect of others and become productive and effective much faster.
