Yes it is required. In some universities you will be having maths for first 3 semesters and in some you will be having it only. For 2 years or so!
So it completely depends on which university you choose!
And coming to why maths I required here is the reason
1)To understand the process of sterilization you need to have basic knowledge of integration and differentiation.
2)In biotechnology one have to study about fermentator design & upscaling, bioprocesses, mass transfer, metabolic engineering, biochemistry, biophysics etc. So maths is required there!
3). For finding the estimation of dna, there is use of maths.
