Yes you can appear
Candidates securing at least 55% marks in their Master's Degree or equivalent from a recognised university in Humanities (including languages), Social Science, Computer Science and Applications, Electronic Science, etc. Are eligible to appear for the UGC NET exam conducted by NTA.

Dear Anusuya, Ph.D. entry is little different in USA as compared to India. However, if you are passionate and focused then you can easily get the entry. Just make these things ready and start applying.
1. Select your area of interest
2. Prepare a workplan/SOP according to that consulting existing literature about the topic.
3. Clear GRE/TOEFL/IELTS anyone.
4. Write emails to the faculty/scientist regarding your willingness to join and your cover letter highlighting your workplan.
5. You can apply for different scholarships after getting confirmation from your host guide. Hope this will help you.
