No, it's not important to have an arts background for a master's in Expressive Arts UK. In fact, students from diverse backgrounds like psychology, nursing, education, social work and occupational therapy with an ongoing artistic practice and relevant professional experience can also apply. Not necessarily. Expressive Arts is a broader term and can encompass creative arts education, arts and wellbeing, and community arts practice, as well as clinical arts therapy.
If your goal is to practise as a registered arts therapist in the UK, you must specifically enrol in an HCPC-accredited arts therapy programme (Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dramatherapy, or Dance Movement Psychotherapy).
