Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) offers several branches of engineering courses such as Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering. Well, In the first year all the branches study same syllabus in a same building and if one got good CPI in first year then you can get promoted to good branch which you have filled in the form. Now coming to the petrochemical branch, according to me I am concerned no branch is bad if you have passion about it. Go through any branch, you will definitely do good and as far as I am concerned by doing B.Tech from petroleum, you must prefer in gulf countries. You are eligible for every Government exam, mechanical. Now coming to AMU, mostly students prefer branches other than petrochemical nowadays. In first year, the infrastructure of all branches has same labs and workshops which are very good. They are having good instruments and machinery. After first year, petrochemical students have their labs mostly, and few in common labs. If we talk about faculty, I was from mechanical, so some teachers which are in common with petrochemical are fine you will find faculty fine. But some teachers will be good enough they teach in good manner. But if you have passion to get something, sure that they will help you out sure. The placement criteria is many small-scale companies and few large-scale companies including few MNCs which mostly hire EE, CS mechanical students few civil engineering and very few petrochemicals. If you are in luck, I think one of many petroleum companies also come sometimes. But some companies hire common students from every stream like TCs, Wipro, etc. You will get benefit from these companies.

The Mechanical Engineering at AMU is one of the oldest Engineering Department of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. It is one of the biggest departments in the University with a student strength of about 700. It offers degrees related to Ph.D., M.Tech. (Thermal Engineering, Industrial & Production Engg., Machine Design, Robotics and Automation), B.Tech. & B.E. (Evening) programs.
The Department is organized in terms of four groups namely Fluid Mechanics, Industrial & Production Engineering, Thermal Engineering and Machine Design group. These groups are involved in teaching and research in the broad areas of Fluid Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Molecular Fluid Dynamics, Solid Mechanics, Impact Mechanics, Structural Dynamics & Control, Smart composite & Sandwich structures, Structural Reliability, Industrial Tribology, Manufacturing systems, Nano-Materials, Composites & Polymers, Ergonomics, Combustion Engineering, Refrigerating systems, IC Engines, Experimental & Numerical Heat Transfer and Solar Thermal energy systems.
The research group of Fluid Mechanics is actively involved in areas such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Experimental Aerodynamics, Turbulence, and Heat Transfer. The efforts of this group have resulted in the development of several flow solvers like generalized DNS solver for incompressible flow with or without heat transfer, flow with large temperature gradients, immersed boundary solver for solving flows generated due to moving or deforming bodies. Recently the group has developed a new numerical scheme for solving compressible flows and a new type of boundary condition for solving external flows.Major research initiatives of the Industrial & Production Engineering Group include the Development of wear-resistant material and casting of composites. Notable contributions of the Ergonomics research division of the department are artificial arms and a hand device for people suffering from Parkinson's disease. The Group has also designed and fabricated a new hand feed system for the drilling machine. Modeling and simulation-based studies in the area of manufacturing systems have yielded interesting results and have helped in the improvement of flexibility-based manufacturing systems. The Production Engineering group has fabricated high strength and wear-resistant Nano Metal Matrix Composites (NMMCs) through foundry route and Nano Polymer Matrix Composites (NPMCs) through low-temperature chemistry route for automobiles and engineering components.

Electrical engineering is one of the best branches to study at AMU after all it is one of the oldest departments of country. You will get number of companies there for placement but all you have to do is to make sure that you fully utilize your four years at ZHCET. P. Switching to Electrical engineering after first year is very tough as students kept their first priority as electrical providing boost to required CPI to almost 9.7.
