Desh Bhagat University admissions are both merit and entrance-based. The university considers merit in the last qualifying exam to shortlist students for some of its courses. However, students are also selected based on valid score secured by them in the accepted entrance test. Some of the entrance-based courses are PhD, MBA, BDS, BAMS, etc. Hence, it is not as easy to categorise the university's admission into merit or entrance basis. DBU offers a BCom programme with multiple exit options. Tabulated below is the point of time of exit and the corresponding degree:

• The students who complete one year and leave the programme will be awarded a Certificate in Commerce
• The students who complete two years/four semesters and leave the programme will be awarded a Diploma in Commerce.
• The students who successfully complete three years/six semesters and leave the programme will be awarded a BCom degree
• An option is given to the students to continue their education to the Fourth year and those who successfully complete four years/eight semesters will be awarded a BCom (Hons) degree
