Did I waste my 3 years at Islamia College of Science and Commerce? My honest college review.
Placements: Unfortunately, no student in my course got placed. The college has an official placement cell, but it is practically inactive. No student from my batch got an internship either. Any student for whom getting placed is a priority should think more before joining this college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure was kind of decent. The classrooms were both big and small. My favorite place in the entire college was the library. The library is well-maintained, with AC and Wi-Fi facilities as well. The hostel is average. The boys' hostel contains around 26 rooms. Three students stay in a room, making it difficult to have private space there. The food was also decent, though I personally found some hygienic issues. The college has a big group, and you can participate in multiple sports.
Faculty: Teachers were formally qualified and knowledgeable. However, most of them, except for a few, lacked effective teaching techniques. I feel the curriculum, for the most part, is not relevant from the industry perspective. You're mostly trained for getting good marks, not for jobs. The difficulty of the semester exams was moderate. Most of the students (80%) pass the exam easily.
Other: I chose this course because I was fairly good at the subject. I had decided in my 10th class that I would take the Commerce stream. However, I was a little disappointed with the syllabus. I feel that the syllabus taught at the Bachelor's level should be designed with the needs of the industry at the center. The college does organize events, but very few. I hope the college organizes more events in the future. About the scholarships, I'm not sure. I am from a general category. I don't think they have scholarship programs for reserved categories.

I suggest students join GDC, Anantnag, if they live nearby.
Placements: The college is situated in a very good location, which is easily accessible. There are many opportunities in college. The college offers 20 percent placements. The package offered is 2 LPA. L&T, Anchor, Havells, and Lord are the top recruiting companies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very good with top-quality labs and experienced lecturers. It also has Wi-Fi facilities and clean classrooms with a hostel facility for students. It has a canteen, but the canteen is not well-maintained. It lacks good sports facilities, but overall, sports facilities are good.
Faculty: Teachers are very good with top-quality knowledge and qualifications. They are also very experienced and friendly. Exams are based on what is being taught, and nothing is out of the syllabus. The course curriculum is also relevant and makes students industry-ready.

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) - Batch of 2026

In a nutshell, I am satisfied.
Placements: We are about 21 students studying in our batch. Being a first year’s student, as far as I know, there is no kind of jobs or any placements provided to the students studying in our course, or to those who have already passed out from our college. After completion of the course, we have to find the jobs ourselves and we are not recruited by any companies or firms.
Infrastructure: We are satisfied with the infrastructure and facilities provided to us in our department. We have a library and other learning sources available there along with being provided Wi-Fi as well. As I am not living in hostel, I do not know about the quality of food available in the mess, but sometimes when we buy food from the canteen of our department, it's quality is good. Also medical facilities, sports and gym are very nice.
Faculty: The teachers are highly qualified with good knowledge about our course and their way of teaching is also impressive. They are hardworking and are helpful towards the students. The semester exams conducted in our college are moderate being neither tough nor easy. The passing percentage is not that high, the reason behind this is that the paper marking is done very strictly.
Other: I was interested in doing B.Com so I chose this course and I am very much contended with this course. The thing that I wish could be improved is that the students should be given a bit of career support after the completion of the course and scholarships must be provided to the students. The surroundings of the department is not crowded, it's peaceful and clean. Many extracurricular activities are also done here.

My experience in this college was not good at all, and even it couldn't have been the worst.
Placements: I think none of the students got placed from our college. There is no concept of placements in our college. Most of the students study in our college to get their bachelor's degree and then opt for a master's programme from a good university. Some of my friends got online internships from different organisations, and most of them are from LinkedIn. But I think it doesn't have anything related to the college.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is not available in our college except in the principal's chamber and staff room. I really don't know about labs as I am from the commerce department. Classrooms are decent enough with good quality seating arrangements. The library is above average, and books are available, but you can't find all the required materials. As compared to other local colleges, our library is good enough.
Faculty: Teachers here are very qualified as they undergo a very different selection process, but they are not helpful towards students. Not all but most of the teachers are very arrogant and don't consider helping students as a part of their job. The course curriculum is very old. It definitely doesn't make students industry-ready. Even we still use the notes of the students who have passed out decades ago. Exams are not much different, and the question papers contain expected questions as the syllabus has not been changed for various years. There is not any new thing to ask from students that haven't been already asked.
Other: As I was from a commerce background, I didn't have many options. So I chose this course. Unfortunately, there is not any good thing about the course. The course curriculum should be modified, and the new syllabus has to be introduced to help students to get a job after graduation. Event and fests are not organised in our college. However, you can be a part of some sports activities such as cricket and volleyball. Need-based scholarships are provided to some students by the government through the college.

The best college in our area, with the best faculty, massive 24x7 library and Wi-Fi enabled campus.
Placements: In our college, there weren't many recruitment drives. Because almost 90% of students prefer Masters after graduation. But some companies recruit students when after graduation. The top recruiting companies were Kanwal, Pampore Saffron Enterprises etc. You are free to do an internship in any company. The college insists students to do internships. The top role offered in our course was senior accountant by Accenture. The highest package offered was 12 LPA, and the lowest package was 1.2 LPA.
Infrastructure: The campus is ragging-free and eco-friendly. The campus is full of greenery with good playgrounds for students. There is also an indoor stadium for indoor games. There is a massive library on the campus with 24x7 access. The hostels are pretty big and beautiful. They provide good quality food in the mess.
Faculty: Almost all the teachers are well-qualified to do their job. They prepare themselves enough to deliver the lectures and make us understand every bit. The teachers are always ready to help students. The course is relevant and make students industry-ready.
Other: I passed out from college in June 2019, and today, I have my own startup company. I chose this course so that I can start my own business after graduation, and the course helped me a lot to fulfil my wish of becoming an entrepreneur. The thing I wish to add in the course is that there should be compulsory industrial visits and internships. They provide scholarships to meritorious students and to the lower-class students so that they don't have be any financial problems to study.

Faculty members are good, but the main problem is the education system.
Placements: Our college does not provide placements. Roles are not offered in our course. The salary package is not offered. Our college is all about getting a degree certificate, so I will not recommend it to anyone. I think most of the colleges in Kashmir are like that, so it is not worth being there.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure and facilities in our college are good. There is an active Wi-Fi connection. It has a huge library with a large number of books. Medical facilities are not that good. Sports tools are also good, but you will never be able to play with them.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are well-knowledgeable, but the problem is with our education system, not in this college, but in all other colleges of Kashmir. Students do not aim for placements. They just come to attain a degree and keep their education going.

It is a good choice for those who live nearby.
Placements: Placements are not very good, and expectations are low. Since it is a government college, faculty quality is somewhat negotiable. This year, the packages offered in the B.Com sector range between 1.5 LPA and 2 LPA. The placement percentage is very low, at around 25 percent, which is not good.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi connectivity is good, and sports instruments are also good. However, the gym is not well-maintained. Most equipment is rusty, and treadmills often show technical errors and do not work properly. The gym feels a bit suffocated. On the positive side, the ground area is very large, and more than five games can be played at the same time.
Faculty: Teachers do not appear frequently. They are usually visible only during lecture hours. They are not easily approachable when students need help. However, their nature is good. Although it may take time to find them. Students eventually get their work done.
