All you need to know about Poornima University’s BTech programme

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, experts at Poornima University talks about the BTech programme and its specialisations in detail. Students can read the conversation below to get a clear view of the eligibility criteria, admission process, fee, scholarships, placements trend and infrastructure.

Here is the edited excerpt of the conversation:

Q: What is the process to get admission to BTech programme at Poornima University?

A: Poornima University offers direct admission to all eligible students. The students aspiring get admitted to Poornima University must fill up the online application form with a nominal fee of Rs 1,200 or can choose to obtain the offline form from the university campus. To be eligible for admission, the applicant must have:

• Minimum aggregate of 50 per cent in Class 12 from CBSE (45 per cent for SC/ST/OBC/SC/Non-creamy layer/Girls), or
• Minimum aggregate of 45 per cent from an equivalent board with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects (40 per cent for ST/SC/OBC/SBC)

Q: What according to you is the scope of BTech program post Covid-19 pandemic?

A: The current lockdown and the pandemic situation is not a permanent issue. The global economy is looking for options other than China to shift its manufacturing and other businesses. Keeping this in mind, we can say that post Covid-19, BTech programmes would be in high demand. The campaigns such as 'Make in India' and 'Aatmnirbhar' would drive the Indian economy's growth to new heights and hence, the demand for BTech programmes such as Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering would gradually increase. 

Q: How is the curriculum designed? What are the different specialisation options available to students?

A: The four-year degree programme is divided into eight semesters and offers specialisation in:

• Cloud Technology
• Artificial Intelligence
• Data Science
• Infirmation Security
• BlockChain

The curriculum also includes mandatory professional certification courses with rigours industry-institute interaction. The students have to mandatorily undergo two internships – one of 45 days and another of six months. The University offers internship programmes on both Indian and international level.

Q: What is the cost of programme? Do you also offer hostel facility?

A: The cost of the programme ranges from Rs 62,500-72,500 depending on the specialisation chosen by the student. There is an additional fee Rs 10,000 as an administrative fee and Rs 5,000 as caution fee which is refundable.

The University also offers hostels services to students. The hostel fee starts from Rs 79,000 per year. We take care of proper food and hygiene facilities to ensure a home-like environment for our students.

Generally, the fee of NBA accredited colleges that are affiliated to Rajasthan Technical University is Rs 80,000 per annum. Pursuing BTech from an RTU affiliated college is a more economical option than to pursue it from any other engineering institute across India who charges an average fee of Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per year.

Q: Are there any scholarships for students?

A: We do offer scholarships to students on the basis of their merit scores in Class 12. For BTech aspirants, the scholarships are offered on the basis of their aggregate score in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 

Q: Can you share some insights on placements?

A: The Poornima University is known for its quality placements in Rajasthan. We have successfully placed over 4,000 students in the last three years. We have a track record of 90 per cent placement every year. There are a lot of students who also aspire to be an entrepreneur and hence, start their own start-up as the curriculum ends and some students also choose to go for higher studies.

We generally advise students to pursue post-graduation to have a large and broad spectrum of graduation.

Some of the recruiters who actively participate in placements season include TCS, Infosys, Microsoft, Genpact, Capgemini, ICICI Bank, Wipro, Airtel and IBM. Students pursuing Computer Science and Engineering and Electrics and Communication Engineering have better chances to get selected in PSU where CTC ranges between Rs 7-30 LPA.
