In a conversation with Shiksha.com, the experts and faculty at Parul University share all important information students must know before taking admission in the Bachelor in Design (BDes) programme at the University. The one-on-one revolves around information, including eligibility criteria, admission process, fee structure and placement trends. Here is an edited excerpt of the conversation:

Here is an edited excerpt of the conversation:

Q: What is the process to get admission to B.Des programme at Parul University?

A: For admission to Bachelor’s degree programmes at Parul University, the applicant must have passed Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 50%. Whereas, for admission to diploma courses, the applicant must have passed Class 10 with a valid degree from recognised board or equivalent institution.

Eligible students can directly apply for admission. They will undergo a Design Aptitude Test (DAT) followed by a portfolio round.

The DAT exam for the 2021 admission session is scheduled for April 30.

Q: How is the curriculum designed? What are the different specialisation options available to students?

A: The four-year degree programme is divided into eight semesters. The first two sememster deal with common subjects from all disciplines. In the beginning of third sememster, students get the opportunity to choose from five specialisations such as Product Design, Interior Design, Visual Communication, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication. They continue with the specialisation course for next three years.

For students interested in UI/UX design or game design, the institute also offers BSc in Animation and VFX and also BSc in Films and TV.

Q: What is the difference between Fashion Design and Fashion Communication programmes?

A: Fashion Design courses deal with an in-depth understanding of garment designing and construction while Fashion Communication is an in-depth study about the promotion and marketing of fashion products.

Q: What is the total cost of programme? Do you also offer hostel facility?

A: The total cost varies depending on the choice of programme.

The tuition fee for diploma course is Rs 1 lakh per annum whereas the fee for Bachelor’s course is Rs 2 lakh per annum. There is an additional fee of Rs 80,000 per annum for students willing to opt for an accommodation facility on campus. Also, there is an application fee of Rs 1,000 to be paid at the time of filling the form online.

The institute also offers scholarships depending on the academic performance of the students.

Q: What is the student intake in B.Design programme? And, how soon the session will start?

A: The total intake of students is 100, 20 students in each specialisation. The session is expected to start from end of July. The exact dates will be notified to students well in advance.

Q: Can you share some insights on placements?

A: We have a dedicated in-house placement cell offering 100 per cent placement assistance. Fashion companies such as Myntra and Flipkart actively participate in the placement season along with few interior design companies.

Upon completion of Interior Design programme, the students can easily secure an average package of Rs 3-5 lakh per annum. The median salary package reported by the University is Rs 18 lakh.

Q: What are different career option available to students upon completion of Design programme?

A: After graduating from Parul University, students get various options such as becoming an interior designer, residential designer, hospitality designer, consultant and academician. They can also choose to work as a freelancer.

Q: How do you help your students to become industry-ready?

A: We believe in learning beyond boundaries. To keep students updated with latest happenings in the world, we regularly organise workshops, seminars and guest lectures inviting eminent leaders from various industries.

Also, we have a linguistic cell where students can learn English language and enhance their communication skills.
