More Than Just Engineering: My Experience at Haldia Institute of Technology
Since I was a school-going student, I wanted to pursue Engineering for my higher studies. After clearing the WBJEE exam, I participated in the counselling process and came to know about Haldia Institute of Technology (HIT). I made the decision to opt for Computer Science and Engineering. That was the start of my journey at this college.
Here at HIT, we are required to attend the classes regularly. The rules here for attendance are strict, which, as a result, makes the students engage more with the teachers. Apart from studying, I spend my free time doing extracurricular activities.
I got admission to the college through the WBJEE exam. While preparing for it, I did not take any coaching or external help and relied entirely on self-study. Well, that turned out to be a good decision in the end.

College Life at HIT
The college is generally considered good, supportive, interactive, helpful, and has many well-qualified and knowledgeable teachers.
Some reviewers did mention that a few teachers occasionally teach in Bengali, which might be a problem for non-Bengali speakers. Academic focus is on both theory and practical lab work, with labs being considered very important.
Typically, it includes three class tests and one end-semester exam per semester. HIT is an autonomous institution that offers a wide range of BTech, MTech, MCA, MBA, and other courses across various fields, including Engineering and Humanities.
At HIT, the highest packages offered vary from INR 8 to INR 44 LPA. The average packages are often in the range of INR 3 to INR 7 LPA. Top recruiters that visit our campus for recruitment include TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, and Accenture. Overall, the placement support provided at the college is very good. The placement cell has been very helpful for students here.
Commonly asked questions
The Campus
The college campus is spread across a large area of approximately 37 acres. The infrastructure is well-maintained, and there is a lot of greenery everywhere inside the campus.
The classes are equipped with projectors but do not have ACs. Many students have noticed there being broken tables and projects in some classes. This is something that requires attention from the college.
The college library is good, with a large catalogue of books. The quality of food offered at the hostel mess needs to be looked after. Most of the students staying at the hostels complain about the food offered at the hostel mess. Generally, Wi-Fi facilities are available at hostels.
The college has great facilities for extracurricular activities, including a football field, basketball court, and volleyball courts. There are also indoor games available for students, such as table tennis and carrom. The facility also includes a gym. Another highlight is the healthcare center, with doctors and emergency medical services available inside the campus.
The student crowd is great here. There are several clubs available (dance, music, coding, ACM, etc.) for personal growth and engagement. The annual cultural fests such as Riviera and Prayukti are major highlights. Here, we are generally required to wear uniforms, which is something I am personally not a fan of.
Conclusion
College life at HIT offers a great academic environment with good placement support. Everything offered at the college to students is mostly good. I am happy with my decision to come here to pursue my higher studies. I do have faced some language barriers sometimes when engaging with the teachers here. But this is something that is not a major deal for me.
I am enjoying my time so far at the campus; I have made many friends, and the faculty is helpful. I am now just focused on maintaining a good grip on my studies so that I can utilise my time here to the best of my ability.

Official ETS practice tests work best. Free ones on the TOEFL website match the real exam closely. Test takers recommend TOEFL Question Bank and some paid apps for speaking feedback. Combine them with YouTube tips. Avoid random books. Consistent practice beats everything else.
