At Amity Gurugram, we have an added benefit of learning a foreign language, says Garima Rauniyar

Teachers here are very professional and have a lot of expertise in their fields so I enjoy attending all classes. Although, it gets really tiring, attending classes all day long as we don’t even have one free period. But it keeps us all busy and keeps us in the environment of like-minded people who are also here pursuing their passion of Fashion Designing like I am. There is also an added benefit of a foreign language that you have to opt for and you can learn, in addition to an open elective

I had opted for Bachelor's in Business Administration a few years back and it wasn’t what I had expected. I couldn’t see myself doing something in that field, in the future. I pursued it in Nepal, where I was born. With a background in Commerce, as I had opted for the same in Class 11 and 12, BBA seemed like a good fit at the time. However, I regretted my decision later. I have noticed that you may plan something but life always has different plans for you. I found BBA to be something very different from what I had expected it to be. Although I was in my hometown at the time, I enjoyed the environment and the people of the college. But there was something always missing. Always being inclined to Fashion and dressing, and not just the look of it but also the technicalities, I thought why not. So once the opportunity of pursuing a bachelor's in something I am interested in, presented itself in Amity University, Gurgaon, I grabbed it by the horns and thus, my journey here began.

Cracking admission at Amity was not such a big of a task and knowing that I’m already a graduate student helped a lot. The university knew of my graduate status and very much appreciated it. However, there was a written exam and an interview.  My course here is four-year long, with a year of the internship included. I loved the campus when I came here and hostel life so far away from home excited me and made me nervous. Being close to home makes everything accessible and extremely easy. The hundreds of kilometers of distance really scared me, to be quite honest. There weren’t any coaching classes that I took because even the technicalities such as drawing, came very naturally to me. Amity was my only choice and I’m glad I got in as I’m really enjoying the university experience out here.

There is also an added benefit of a foreign language that you have to opt for and you can learn, in addition to an open elective that you can opt for. It is also mandatory to study Environmental Sciences, as a part of the curriculum. I believe these things make Amity University exceptional and increases our knowledge and how. When it comes to extracurricular activities, the second year onwards, there are so many fashion shows and competitions for Fashion Designing students that this field pretty much takes over their life. For instance, after classes, I am either designing a dress, or finishing up assignments. These University-based fashion shows are so much fun yet tiring. We recently won a competition in the North Campus University where we had presented Bridal Wear created by yours truly. From designing a dress to finding the right fabric and to looking for the perfect model, this whole process is pretty enjoyable for me. If given the time and the chance, I would like to participate in events at the university more and explore the side of me that I still haven’t. I love dancing and being out there, so that is something I want to make time for, now that I’m in my third year. However, I have enjoyed each and every moment of my university life till now, especially hostel life. I have made some amazing friends whom I share my suite in the hostel campus with and it is nice knowing I have my people here, as well, even when I’m far away from home.
