I am into cars and e-sport racing but aspire to become a successful businessman: Om Ranga
I come from business-class family where I have always seen a business environment. There is something about it that fascinated me a lot since the beginning. In India, the local business environment is more or less unorganised and a majority of the people in the industry are not well-qualified. This creates a sense of misconception in a lot of people that anyone with any level of information can be successful at doing business but in reality, as of today in India, things are complex and inter-related. Education plays a crucial role, be it taxation policy, simple business laws, or complex marketing strategy, etc. The world has become more and more price-sensitive and in order to keep up with the trend, increasing efficiency seems to be the only option.
These were my chain of thoughts when I choose commerce for class 11 and 12. And now I am pursuing BBA from iLEAD Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Development.
For admission in iLead, things were fairly simple. First I had to go through a group discussion with about 15 more students. The topic was ‘Whether India is ready for full digitalisation?’ and there were a lot of creative ideas shared, making it one of the most interesting part of the admission process. I was selected for the personal interview round where I was asked about my likes, hobbies and future plans. There was no such entrance exam.
This is what I like about iLead, it’s straight forward and practical.
During the personal interview, I was asked by the teacher about my points in the group discussion. She was impressed as I mentioned the fine details and the problems related to full digitalisation. Out of the 15 students, only seven made through personal interview session. I was trying for J.D Birla Institute also but I liked iLead more.
At iLead, a minimum of 75 per cent attendance is required in all subjects. If you run between 65-75 per cent, you will have to pay. If by any chance you end up on the south side of 65 per cent, you will be barred from giving exams. Due to this rule, there is a full turn up of students in the college. The classes are filled and there is a strong academic environment.
I love all the subjects and genuinely enjoy attending the classes. But out of all the classes, my current favourite would be business law. It tells us about our legal rights and teaches us crucial lessons of taking proper precaution and doing things legally. I feel business law is an important subject for anyone who is going to work in the professional sector.
For extra-curricular activities in college, I play football and hope to join the photography club soon. Digital marketing also seems interesting, so might try out that one, too.
My college experience has been eventful. When you are in school, you have a certain level and standard of people around you. The difference is not much and you don’t get to meet people with drastically different mentality whereas, in college, there are people from different schools across India. You get a first-hand experience of people and their chain of thoughts. This will be useful down the years when these people turn out to be the ones you deal with in a business circle. It’ll help us predict and analyse situations. Also, college has taught me better time management along with the lessons I learn. Now I can comfortably attend college and then do internships and work for my business without much stress.

I recently got my bachelor's, and I have friends who attended all of the above-mentioned colleges, and with that, I'm telling you don't opt for any of them. Try to get into a tier 2 or tier 1 college. If you still are not able to do that, then go for St. Xavier's (Autonomous); don't opt for St. Xavi
