I am Prajna P Rao, currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering at AIET. I am interested in coding, technology and learning new things. I have completed my Senior grade Carnatic music exam and currently doing my Vidwat. In my free time I also teach Music to my students.

Chapter 1. Describe in 200-300 words: How did you choose your course of study in school (class XI-XII)? What made you choose your current college/course (undergrad/post-grad)?

After completing my class 10, I chose the biology Stream for my class 11th and 12th.At that time, I was interested in Biology and wanted to explore the opportunities that came with studying it. I spent my two years learning subjects like biology, chemistry, physics, and it was a different experience from what I am studying today.

After completing my 12th, I started thinking more carefully about the career. During this time, I developed interest in Computers and technology. I was curious about how the software works. Even though I studied bio I felt that I wanted to explore more of Computer Science.

Choosing Computer Science and Engineering after being bio student was a big change for me. In the beginning, I knew that I would learn many things from the basics, especially programming.

I chose Alvas Institute of Engineering and Technology for my undergraduate studies and joined the Computer Science and Engineering course. My college has given me the opportunity to learn programming, databases, operating systems, computer networks and other areas of computer science. I have also worked on different projects, which helped me understand how the concepts I learn can be used to solve practical problems.

Chapter 2. Describe in 200-300 words: How you cracked admission in your current college? What all entrance test(s) did you give? Any coaching classes that you took for preparation? Any other colleges that you were trying out for? What challenges did you face while opting for this college?

After completing my 12th, I started looking for colleges where I could pursue Computer Science and Engineering. I appeared for the Karnataka CET exam as part of admission process. However my CET rank was not sufficient to get the seat I wanted through the counceling process.

I was also trying to get admission in Nitte. I had written NUCAT exam and passed it and got seat in Artificial Intelligence branch there, bbut I personally wanted to pursue core Computer Science and Engineering. I was more interested in learning basic areas of computer science along with programming, databases, operating system and computer networks.I had taken coaching in expert for me jee exams.

After discussing the available options with my family, I decided to take a seat at Alvas Institute of Engineering and Technology for CSE core branch.

Chapter 3. Describe in 300-500 words: How you spend your time at college? Which classes do you like to attend? Which extra-curricular activities are you a part of in college? If given a chance, what else would you want to do? How has your college experience changed you as a person? What opportunities do you see in future?

Since Alvas is well known college in Karnataka, People from many places come and stay at Alvas. As of for me I am a localite. So at first, I struggled a little to make myself comfortable in Alvas, because there were more hostelites overall.

In 1st sem I liked chemistry subject more because I had already studied it in my PUC.

In 2nd sem it was obviously mathematics and physics. My most favorite subject of all is Maths. I liked solving it by myself. Apart from that python, c, java, oops, databases were also some of the highlighted subjects for me.

As I mentioned before I also sing. So I am a part of Dhwani club (which is a band )

And we have participated in many music competitions organized by VTU and WON in many. So apart from studies I do like sports, I also participated in statelevel table tennis tournament twice in the school.

My college experience has changed me in many ways. I have become more confident in trying something new and learning from the beginning. Moving from bio to CS taught me that having a different background doesn’t mean that I cannot enter a new field.

In future, I see opportunities to build a career in technology field, especially in areas related to software and backend development. I want to continue improving my skills, gain practical experience and become a person who can use technology to solve real-world problems.

Chapter 4. What do you plan in future?

In future, I want to build a good career in technology field. Since I started computer science after studying bio, I feel that I still have a lot to learn and explore. I want to improve my programming skills.

At the same time, I do not want to leave my music behind. Carnatic music has been a part of my life since I was three, and I want to continue learning and teaching along with my career.
