Admission in B.A. (Economics) and BBA is done through Common Entrance Test conducted by Patna University. Teaching is imparted through various modes such as Classroom learning, Group Discussion, Lectures through Power Point Presentation etc.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, online teaching method has also been adopted by the department so that the learning activities of students is not suffered. Remedial or extra classes are also conducted by the faculty members for the slow learners as a booster dose.

The teaching faculty members are also engaged in mentoring the students on academic and personal issues. Learning through e-resources are encouraged due to the changing nature of education system. Student-centric learning methodologies are used for enhancing learning experiences. Students are encouraged to collect data from various Government departments and organizations, do market survey and present the survey reports. Seminars and Webinars are also organized by the department to bring academic flexibility in students. Class tests, Quizzes and Sent-up exams are conducted for continuous periodical evaluation of the progress of students.

The Department of Economics is located in the main building of Bihar National College, Patna University at Ashok Rajpath. The aim of the department is to impart teaching to undergraduate students strictly adhering to the syllabus approved by Patna University. Along with this, the Department of Economics also runs vocational course: Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA). It was started in 2007. The Head of Economics Department is also the Co-ordinator of BBA course.
