at Faculty of Law, Aligarh

Faculty of Law AMU offers the following specialisations for candidates wishing to pursue the LLM programme: 

1. Criminal Law
2. Constitutional Law
3. Commercial Law
4. Family Law
5. Labour Law

Candidates must choose either of these specialisations while pursuing the LLM course at Faculty of Law AMU. The specialsiation courses help candidates build expertise in the respected field and help them build a career in the same. 

Around 20% of students at Aligarh Muslim University's Faculty of Law opt for the LL.M. programme after finishing their B.A. LL.B. studies. The LL.M. programme at AMU lasts for two years, with a minimum completion time of 2 years and a maximum of 4 years. Practical training is also part of the course.

The 2022 placement drive concluded with 83% of BA LLB and 26% of LLM students placed. Earlier, 82% of BA LLB and 20% of LLM students were placed during 2021 placements. Over the past three years (2020 to 2022), the placement rate for BA LLB and LLM indicates an improving trend. Both are good institutions of learning.

But it can be better to study at National law University, Delhi. Faculty of law, AMU can be taken as a second option. AMU is good in teaching but it is like Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) which is not comparable with IITs.

Studying at NLU has many relative advantages than studying at AMU. It will give you wide exposure to the world if ideas and learning and also facilitate you in learning other things. You can also easily participate and observe or attend courts at Delhi high court and the Supreme court of India

During 2022 placements, 181 out of 219 BA LLB students were placed. Earlier, 179 out of 219 students were placed during 2021 placements. For LLM, 10 out of 35 were placed during 2022 placements. In 2021, 7 out of 35 LLM students were placed. Faculty of Law AMU offers 240 seats in the BA LLB program. 120 of these seats are available in AMU Aligarh, and the remaining seats are available in the AMU centers at Malappuram and Murshidabad.You can't join the Faculty of Law at Aligarh Muslim University as a student directly.

Admissions are based on merit and entrance which can be done in three ways, including entrance test conducted by the Aligarh Muslim University, entrance test conducted by separate departments and admission based on marks in the last qualifying examination.

Here are some eligibility criteria for admissions for various courses:

1) FOR BA LLB-Candidate must have passed Class 12 or equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% aggregate or Bridge Course (Senior Secondary School Certificate) from AMU with 50% aggregate.

The age limit should not be more than 22 years in the year of admission.

2) FOR LLM-Candidate must have passed LLB/ BA LLB or an examination recognised by the university as its equivalent with a minimum of 55% aggregate.

The candidate should not be more than 27 years in the year of admission.
