On Highlights
Q:   Does B.A. LL.B. have a better placement rate than LL.M. at Faculty of Law, Calcutta University?
A:

Calcutta University is higher than that of the LL.M. program. In 2022, 95 out of 119 UG (5-year) students were placed, while the placement rate for PG (2-year) students is not officially released. However, the NIRF report 2023 includes the overall placement data for PG (2-year) courses, which is 70%.

Q:   Can I get Faculty of Law, Calcutta University B.A. LL.B. with 65 percentile in CLAT?
A:

No, regrettably, a 65 percentile on the CLAT exam will not get you into the B.A. LL.B programme at Calcutta University's Faculty of Law.

According to the most recent admission requirements and prior cutoffs, the minimum CLAT percentile needed to be admitted to the Faculty of Law, CU for a B.A. LL.B. is:

1. For candidates in the general category: 90+ percentile
2. For candidates who are SC/ST: 55+ percentile
3. 65+ percentile for candidates who are OBC or PWD

Thus, the cutoff for applicants in the general category is above the 90th percentile, which is fairly high. Only the reserved OBC/PWD category's relaxed cutoff is met by your 65 percentile score.

The number of seats and cutoff ranks determine admission even for reserved candidates. For the general category, the minimum percentile is higher.

I would advise you to try raising your CLAT score.

It offers an outstanding setting for individuals studying law.
Placements: Our college offers a nurturing atmosphere where students are motivated to investigate different career options, participate in skill-enhancing workshops, and network with professionals in their fields. Although the official placement process may not be present, we enable students to take ownership of their career paths through individualized support, internships, and a variety of networking events. Our committed faculty and career services staff make sure that each student has access to the necessary tools, resources, and self-assurance to follow their interests and thrive in the job market.
Infrastructure: Our college is situated in a separate building dedicated to the law department on the campus. The library is equipped with modern technology and has an up-to-date repository of books. The canteen also provides food at a nominal rate. The hostel has a lush green campus with recreational facilities such as a badminton court and indoor games. The food provided is freshly made every day and has a homemade touch. The menu varies from traditional Bengal cuisine to various other North Indian cuisines.
Faculty: The course is based on a semester system where the exams are conducted for each semester at a 6-month interval. Each batch contains seats for approximately 120 students, which later increases to accommodate 50 more students who have secured Honours in the 6th semester. The course is updated from time to time to meet the requirements of the industry and to equip students to face practical challenges. The faculty at our college is highly qualified and assists us in academic and non-academic ventures to the best of their abilities. They conduct classes regularly and guide us in various competitions.
Other: Our college offers courses that include a B.A. LL.B., a five-year integrated course, LL.M., and Ph.D. This course has various perks, such as the opportunity to create a network and interact with industry professionals at different levels. Apart from that, the law has a social element that equips me to serve the public through the Legal Aid Cell of our college. Our college hosts various events such as moot court competitions, debates, seminars, and fests, which are attended by well-known advocates, judges, journalists, and professors.

The legacy of Hazra Law College (Department of Law, University of Calcutta, Est. 1909) - Review.
Placements: There is a placement committee in the college, which consists of seniors placed in various establishments/organisations in the legal field. Most of the time, the students get placed by themselves through their own independent network or their father's or relative's connection. There is self-sufficiency in students, rather than getting placed formally, they try to find their customized way. The first-generation lawyers who are talented need to be placed in the placement cell. Compared to NLUs, there is no such confinement to placements however, it would really help.
Infrastructure: The overall college campus and infrastructure are satisfactory. There are Wi-Fi facilities, computer labs, a library, lift facilities, etc. One of the amazing facilities is in the library, which has most of the time all the required books by students and is well-maintained. The staffs are especially really helpful. It is a room full of law books, legal journals, bare facts, judgements, and story/non-fiction books and has SCC legal subscription facility. Also, there is a seminar room, a common room for various events, and a bookshop. Hostel facility is amazing and also affordable (1500/- per month) with comfortable rooms.
Faculty: Faculty members are nice and well-qualified. They offer extremely informative classes overall. They also help us with notes and other materials required in the curriculum. They are approachable outside the class also, whenever an appointment is made. Semester exams are overall difficult with lots of preparations required for scoring really good marks in the final. The internals are conducted in the college prior to external exams and have at least two weeks gaps in between them. Faculty members, other than the permanent faculty members, and the guest lecturers are also pretty good and help at times of any particular need.
Other: Any person aspiring to pursue law can definitely keep Hazra Law College in mind. To be honest, there would be a lot of hurdles in the law career, but college life is also a part of that hustle. No college can give you the aspire career opportunity unless you make a hundred percent effort. In this college, there are a lot of opportunities in the form of unity among students. Various clubs like debate, moot court, magazine, journal, seminar, ADR (alternative dispute solution), and cultural clubs, where students can engage themselves to enhance their potential for their careers.

Review of Faculty of Law, University of Calcutta.
Placements: There is no placement cell at the university of law. All students should practice in court, which you can call an internship. Students practice in many courts, like Baruipur Court, Howrah Court, Barasat Court, etc. After completing their B.A. LL.B., some students go practice in court and some students do a master of law.
Infrastructure: Our campus infrastructure is very good. The college authority provides Wi-Fi to every student. Our classrooms are well-cleaned and have plenty of space for 120 students. There is a lift for teachers and students. Our college hostel is very nice and clean. The hostel charges are less. The quality of the food is good.
Faculty: Our teachers are highly qualified and they are very helpful. They always treat every student as a friend and easily teach us. As this law college is under Calcutta University, during semester examinations, students have to go to other colleges under CU. Semester exams are difficult. The pass percentage is 40%.

It is a good college in terms of studies but not the campus.
Placements: Our college doesn't provide placements but it trains students so that they get jobs very easily. Most of the judges of the High Court of Calcutta are qualified from the department of law, University of Calcutta. Passing from CU is an achievement in itself.
Infrastructure: The college doesn't have any such campus. The classrooms are big, spacious library is very good. It doesn't have Wi-Fi. It has moot courts, seminar halls but doesn't have a ground for playing sports and games. The college has research rooms and a union room.
Faculty: Teachers are very qualified, helpful, and mostly doctorates teach us. Semester exams are easy, direct questions are given but the marking scheme is quite difficult. It is really hard to score 70% in CU. But, a 60% in CU is worth 90% in other universities.
Other: Events like debate, quizzes are organised in our university and we also participate in different inter-college competitions too.

The college consists of moot court society, debating society, magazine committee, legal aid clinic.
Placements: Placements in my batch had not yet been started. Few firms came for direct placements. Which hires almost 15-20 students. 20-30 students directly joins firms where they intern during their semester. 15-20 students from each batch go for higher studies. Few go for judiciary preparation and the rest go for litigation. (So we can say that out of batch of 120 students 30-40 students joins any firm/company. 20 students go higher studies. 20 students go for judiciary preparation out of which atleast 5 cracks and the rest go for litigation. ).
Infrastructure: Library is very good. It is open from 9am to around 6 PM. Moot court, seminar room along with the classroom consists of ACs. Library also consists of digital library. I don't live in hostel so I don't know about it. But as one of my friend told me who live in hostel. Hostel is very cheap and good. There is also regular tournament in university in which students from our college participate.
Faculty: Professors are vey good and they are highly qualified. Few professors are also almuni of abroad like Cambridge University etc. The course curriculum is also very good. The students can opt for whatever they want. The curriculum is like that it is also useful for the students who want to prepare for UPSC. Those who will study regularly will not have any problem clearing semesters exam. Internals are held 2 months prior to the exam. The passing percentage is 33.
Other: Overall I would like to say everything is best.

Q:   Can Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP be considered as some of the top recruiters of Faculty of Law, Calcutta University?
A:

Regretfully, Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP do not usually hire students straight out of the University of Calcutta's Faculty of Law.

Several important factors

Indian legal schools teach civil law, but international law firms like Kirkland and Latham typically hire attorneys with training in common law. They favor hiring from National Law Universities or the best Indian law schools.

Being renowned international law firms, they typically don't recruit attorneys directly from universities, but rather from those who have some prior work experience or who have proven their expertise.

Their hiring procedure in India is extremely selective, prioritizing students from the best national law schools. Calcutta University's Faculty of Law doesn't seem to be a major target institution.

Nonetheless, the Faculty regularly places students in corporate openings, judgeship positions, and law firms, among other recruiters. However, it's unlikely that Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins would be regarded as top campus recruiters in particular. Later in their careers, students might apply to these companies for experienced hiring.
