B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering - Batch of 2026

My title of the review will be “How’s my GCET.”
Placements: Placements are good in this college, especially in the 7th semester, where companies come from all over India to meet and greet the students. The highest package gone there is 12 LPA, and the minimum package was 3 LPA for a student, who was my senior. Mostly, students go for internships in the last year rather than taking a project.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure for the course and hostel is very good as they provide value-for-money services and also all other things. The hostel facilities are good, they provide good quality food and rooms for the students. There are libraries and indoor sports rooms to play in.
Faculty: Faculty, curriculum, and exams for my course – I would rate it 10/10 because I am in the 5th semester now but haven’t had any problems to date. The exams are difficult for all the students because we are under Jammu University, but clearing the exams is not a big deal.

It’s a good college, but not excellent. Placements should be increased in future.
Placements: The college is fine. The staff is also good but the placements are very poor. Packages offered range between 4-5 Lacs per annum. In my batch, many students got internships from different companies and institutes like NIC, DRDO and many other private companies. Offered roles in my course include that of software engineer, web developer, and others.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is not so good. The labs are okay but not of a high standard. The library is also okay but not all the books of my course are available. The Labs are not very big and have less seats to fit in a number of students. The staff is strict and doesn’t let us touch anything.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful, qualified and knowledgeable. Some of them are very amazing. The course curriculum is relevant, it makes the students industry ready. Some subjects difficulty level is high. The passing percentage is 40%. I love my final years’ teachers because they are helpful and knowledgeable.

Review of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu.
Placements: Top placements are around 7-8 lacs per annum; only 4-5 people got that much. Rest either got less than 3 LPAs or they didn't even bother to apply. Most students go for higher studies; overall, it's not advisable to depend on placements from colleges; the bare minimum of companies visit this college.
Infrastructure: The hostels are good. College infrastructure is still under construction, and electrical department buildings are still under construction. It is in nature, far from. The city is very difficult to reach. It's in the nature so you will get good air. Rest, it's 3/5.
Faculty: Our syllabus and exams are decided and conducted by university of Jammu. It is like board exams every semester. Internals are in the hands of college. The course seems outdated as per the latest teaching standards. It should be designed. No fancy clubs like drama, dance, music, etc. are there

This college is only for getting a degree.
Placements: Very few companies came for placements till now. Recently, 2 local companies visited our college for the placement drive. Placement packages were low. Internships from the college are poor. Only 1-5% of students get placements through on-campus placement drives.
Infrastructure: In our college, there is only one hostel. Hostel is overcrowded with very few facilities. Mess food is very bad. Hostel rooms are in a very bad condition. All the infrastructure requires renovation. Labs are quite good and well maintained. A dedicated building for the department of electronics and communication is yet under construction.
Faculty: The teaching quality was average in our college. Semester exams are moderate. Few teachers are very knowledgeable and helpful while others are very poor at their jobs. Mostly, the senior faculty is decent. Semester examination is conducted by the University of Jammu and the examination pattern is quite moderate.
Other: There is no fest conducted in our college. Few scholarships are provided to students. Our campus is in a remote location.

The best students of Jammu and Kashmir are here, but the administration needs to be changed.
Placements: I'm in the 7th semester right now, and only a startup with 14 posts have conducted on-campus placements till now. The competing colleges provide funds for AMCAT and Co-Cubes exams regularly while ours didn't. Last year, the training and placement cell even posted the names of students qualifying for government and navy examinations as they qualified because of college.
Infrastructure: Overall, the infrastructure and hostel facilities are good, but the college is in a remote area, so it becomes very difficult for students from city areas to visit on a regular basis. Public transportation is very difficult to access for college, and the girls' hostel is still under construction.
Faculty: The teachers are very knowledgeable, but as the syllabus and pattern change after every 4 years. We were the first batch with a new pattern and syllabus, and there are still many communications regarding our subjects and syllabus, and the administration doesn't provide full knowledge.
Other: During our 3 offline semesters, we didn't have any industrial visits, and we didn't gain basic practical knowledge of our course as we haven't been on an industrial visit. I wish the universities focus more on projects and practical knowledge in future rather than useless assignments and midterms.

I am satisfied with the teaching quality, it has but poor placements.
Placements: Around 30% of the students got placed in our course. The highest salary package offered was 3.6 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered was 2.4 LPA. The top recruiting companies are Wipro, TCS, and PI Infocom. Almost 100% of the students got internships from our course in companies like PI Infocom and many other reputed companies. Top roles offered in our course are VLSI design engineer, Robotics engineer, and AI.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available on the entire campus, and labs are of normal quality upgrading with time. Classrooms are of better quality, but air-conditioners are not available in classrooms. The library of the campus is good, and many books are available but the time for which a library is open is very less.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. The teaching quality is excellent. The E&C course curriculum is not much relevant because it doesn't make students industry-ready. The semester exams are moderate not very much difficult. The pass percentage is 60%.
Other: I opted for this course because of my interest in designing electronic circuits. The best thing about the course is that students can study both the software and hardware parts.

I suggest you not consider this college as the first choice. However, it is not much bad also.
Placements: Placements in this college are average, and there are opportunities but are not widespread. Many students have been placed in the past also, and almost 10-20 students from every batch get placed every year. Salary packages offered are not high. However, if students are talented and will work hard, there are ample opportunities for them. TCS iON and HCL are the companies which have recruited students from our college in the past. Internships are also available through off-campus placements, but students have to be best to get them. Overall, if you are worthy enough, you will get a moderate salary package job or even high if you have skills easily. But you have to work hard. A big advantage in our college is that companies which visit here for recruitment are independent of branches.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is really poor here, and even faculty members agree with it. But this problem is complex as it is a government college, there are more levels to build infrastructure than in private colleges. They have to make a tender and bidding, and then they have to start working on it. The infrastructure is not up to the mark even though there are three main buildings of civil, computer and mechanical departments. They are really well-equipped, and also electronics and electrical have their separate departments. The library and the administration block have built recently and are really well with air-conditioners. Our college has much barren land.
Faculty: Until the year 2018, the course curriculum was really hectic. However, since AICTE has changed the syllabus from 2018, the college has adopted the new syllabus quickly. Other colleges in the state are still teaching the old curriculum. Faculty members up to 4th semester are mostly contract-based lecturers. However, after 2nd year, more experienced and permanent staff members will start teaching who not only help in studies but also show personal interest in students. The main thing of studies in this college is teachers will not help you if you don't study on your own. Even though they clear your doubts, but you have to study on your own a lot and also can take help from books and the internet. However, it is also advantageous because you get a lot of free time to study on your own, which is the best method.
Other: Our college is the best in terms of fees and expenses. As it is a government college, the fee is below Rs. 40,000 for the semester. But our college lacks events like fests, etc. However, an annual Ncieet event is organised in March, and it is a techno-driven event. That event also has some dance programmes. Other than that, college life is pretty poor. The college environment is really good and pleasing. There is a canteen and also some shops around the campus for you to have food. Other than that, there is a huge college ground which was developed recently. Our campus is not strict, and every student minds their own business. But it doesn't mean there is no discipline around the campus.

Good faculty and less college fee.
Placements: Placement is average at GCET Jammu. Average package is 2.0 Lacs per annum and the highest or moderate package us 4.5lakh per annum. The companies that came for placements were Wipro, pie infotech, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, byju's etc. CSE and ECE are major placement holders for the campus.
Infrastructure: There are many facilities including hostel facility for boys and girl, the Wi-Fi is available in the whole campus. Canteen is also there on campus. Labs are provided with a suitable kit for experiment. Medical facilities aren't provided on campus. Extra efforts are being made by every department for better placement records for the campus.
Faculty: The academic department is good as they updated the curriculum according to AICTE UGC norms. The faculty are also qualified as most of them are M.Tech and Ph.D. holders. The faculty are very helpful. Quality of teaching is good and cooperative. The curriculum is relevant according to branch needs.
