B.E. in Computer Engineering - Batch of 2024

A brief introduction about GCET Jammu, mentioning information about faculty and exam conducting.
Placements: Most of the students go unplaced. Only those who have excelled in CGPA and other academic areas get placed. There have not been any big companies coming in the past. Most seniors either prepare for civil exams or start their own businesses. So internships and placements are hard to get.
Infrastructure: The location is slightly remote but still accessible from the city. The campus feels deserted. It is good if you want a countryside-like environment. But basic needs like hospitals and libraries are still far away. The college has a library, but it is mainly useful if you prefer a quiet and deserted place to study.
Faculty: The invigilation is extremely poor in some cases, but mostly strict during the final examinations. Some leniency can be seen in certain places or specific blocks. Most teachers do not focus on external performance. They mainly value internal assessments such as assignments and projects.
Other: As a hosteller, you may feel that there is no better place. The complete fee structure is also manageable.

Overview of GCET Jammu, JK.
Placements: Only 3% of students are placed in our batch. The highest package offered is 3 LPA, while the average package is 1.5 LPA; I have no information about the lowest package. There is just one company, PiSoft, that comes for recruitment. Students have secured internships at TCS. Various roles are offered in our course, including SDE (Software Development Engineer), Product Manager, Data Analyst, Cyber Analyst, and Officer in the defense forces of India.
Infrastructure: The Wi-Fi is available in our department but is not accessible to students. The labs are well-built with great infrastructure, while the classrooms need improvement. The department's infrastructure requires maintenance, as it hasn't been cared for since the college was built. Although I don't live in the college hostel, I have visited it. The hostel infrastructure is good but also needs maintenance. The food quality in the mess is excellent. Sports and games facilities have started improving in our college, but it will take time; right now, they aren't up to the mark.
Faculty: The teachers are very helpful and assist in clearing all doubts. They are well-qualified and possess an enormous amount of knowledge about their respective subjects. The teaching quality is wonderful, and you can ask your doubts openly and freely during class. Yes, the course curriculum is relevant, covering subjects like DSA, Network Security, and Computer Networks. The semester exams are not that difficult if you have gone through the concepts well and solved previous year's questions. Unfortunately, the pass percentage is very low, at 51%, due to writing issues and the length of the answers.
Other: I chose this course because it covers all the latest emerging technologies in the market, such as AI and ML. I think there should be a lab for practical applications of AI and ML, such as a Robotics Lab, and a separate subject on robotics should be introduced. Events like Smart India Hackathon, NCEEITET, and tech fests take place in our college. Additionally, annual Diwali and Holi fests are also celebrated. You will find a mixed crowd in our college, with both low-grade and high-grade students, as is typical in most colleges. The campus surroundings were not well-maintained earlier, but now the college premises are improving in terms of cleanliness. The Prime Minister's Scholarship is available for students who are wards of paramilitary and defense personnel, as well as for female students under this scheme. Regarding extracurricular activities, we have sports activities like cricket, badminton, and volleyball on campus, and we also host singing competitions.

Excellent value for money college with good faculty but not that many great social life and events.
Placements: Only 6-7 people got placed in my branch out of 55 total. The lowest package in the college is 300,000, the highest can go up to 6 lacs, and the average package is also 300,000. There are no top companies recruiting at our college, just some local teaching companies. 5 students got internships from the batch and that too off campus. The roles offered are mostly web development.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is good. All the labs are well-equipped with air conditioning and Wi-Fi and the classrooms are also well maintained. The library has all kinds of books related to the whole curriculum. The hostels were good; the rooms were big enough and tidy and the mess food was good, as I learned from a friend of mine. Sports and games were not that appealing and didn't occur frequently .
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified as well as helpful and they have good knowledge of the curriculum. The course curriculum seems quite relevant but some subjects seemed outdated and didn't seem useful at all. Semester exams were quite decent and not too easy; one can say you have to have good knowledge of the course. The pass percentage is about 70%.
Other: I had interests in computer field and related fields in Texas too. That's why I chose this course. It was quite interesting. I wish there was more practical knowledge than learning theory. Events and fests were organized once or twice a year, not as big and exciting as they should be.

Overall, the college is very good.
Placements: I have heard from our seniors that there are placements but not many, and toppers are more preferred as usual. The highest salary package offered is 3.5 LPA. Many companies like TCS, Mahindra, etc., visit our campus to hire students with a good salary.
Infrastructure: Almost all the basic facilities like libraries, labs, good classrooms, clean toilets, etc., are available in the college. I have not been to my college's hostel, but I have heard from my friends that the hostel facilities in our college are much better.
Faculty: Teachers in our college are qualified, helpful, and frank with the students. Almost every teacher in our college is post-graduated in their respective fields. The course curriculum includes regular visits to factories, other institutions, and companies.
Other: Cultural activities are not conducted in our college as the principal does not like that. Our principal is the worst a college can have.

Review of Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu.
Placements: Around 60 students got placed in the course. The lowest salary package offered is 1 LPA, and the highest salary package offered is 5 LPA in our course. Various top companies come for recruiting students for placements. Around 30% of the students also got various internships programs in various companies.
Infrastructure: Free Wi-Fi is available for students in the college for study purposes. College also provides big practical labs for doing various lab tests and experiments. A big library is also available with all types of books. The hostel is also available for both girls and boys.
Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and qualified. They have various degrees and are very knowledgeable. The teaching quality of teachers is very good. They also teach us through projectors sometimes. The college semester exams are very difficult, and the passing percentage is above 40%.
Other: Our college provides various events and fest.

This is a very good college in all aspects.
Placements: I have heard from our seniors that there are placements, but not many, and toppers are more preferred as usual. The highest salary package offered is 3.5 LPA. Many companies like TCS, Mahindra, and many visit our campus to hire students and place them.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not good, but it is developing. The Wi-Fi facilities are not good on the campus. The laboratories and library are very good. The hostel facility is very good, and the mess facility is good. But this college is lacking in sports.
Faculty: Faculty members are good and helpful. The way of teaching is very good. The semester exams are hard but vary from teachers. The passing percentage is also good i.e 80-90%. It has a good environment on the campus and as well as in the hostel.
Other: If students are looking for good placements with high packages, then it is not a good choice.

GCET, Jammu is good but not the best. It should be an option only if you don't get JEE or NEET.
Placements: The placements records of GCET, Jammu are not good. Less than 10% of the students got placed with an average package of Rs. 3 LPA. The packages vary from Rs. 1 LPA to Rs. 7LPA. Being the only state government run engineering college, it is popular in Jammu and Kashmir.
Infrastructure: Government College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu, is located in rural Jammu and is run by the state government. It has a large campus area spreading over 850 Kanals of land. It has a computer block, mechanical block, civil block, workshop block, administrations block and a small canteen. Electrical and E&C blocks are under construction.
Faculty: The permanent faculty are well qualified and experienced, but they lack the responsibility. The contractual faculty are less experienced, but they have a lot of pressure to complete the syllabus of the whole semester in early 100-150 classes.
Other: The college annual day is celebrated in May. The campus is less crowded. MOMA scholarship is available for minority students.

A discouraging college for any computer loving person.
Placements: The placements at GCET are not good. A maximum of 2 companies visited the campus for placements. A total of around 10-15 students got placed. The average package here is Rs. 3.5 lacs per annum. The highest package is Rs. 5 lacs per annum. Mostly, TCS and Wipro visit the campus. They have to do it on their own. The roles offered to the students from the companies are mainly consultancy work related. Placement is only for computer science, electronics and communication, and mechanical branches. There are no internships offered by the college to the students.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is nice. With a newly inaugurated library, GCET has three blocks of particular branches. The classrooms are good. The hostels are only for boys and the girls' hostel is under construction. There is no playground. Labs are available for each branch. The computer labs are very good.
Faculty: The faculty of GCET is quite good. Almost all teachers have done at least masters from reputed colleges. The curriculum of the college is very beneficial for the students. The subjects the students study here are very much same as those of other prestigious colleges of India.
Other: This college is good for a person who is able to study and learn new things himself. No good skill is developed by the college. The teachers are only for help and won't give any edge to your career. The development in this college is near to zero. The students are good in making a good percentage but barely 2-3 people are good in making a good resume.
