Q:   How is the college life at Government Medical College, Nagpur?
    A:

This college is one of the best colleges in the country for providing Medical Education.

Yes, ragging was an issue in the past, but now there are very few instances of ragging, and that too is not severe (just some intros and other minor things)

I have not heard of any rave parties happening here (I don't know who told you this). And as far as liquor is concerned, yes few students do consume liquor, but the count is very low to have liquor parties going on on the campus.

Hostels are hardly 300–500 meters away from the college building. Anyone needing a hostel room can get it and doesn't need to stay in private hostels.

As far as teaching is concerned, the lecturers are very good. Some of them have so tremendous knowledge and experience, that you would be baffled by how much information they can deduce just from a patient's clinical history.

Students do not always go on studying all year. There are at least 2 major college fests happening in a year. You can join clubs such as Music society, Dance club, Drama club, Quiz club (or even create your little club!)

There are some issues, such as bunks happening in the first year and sometimes (very rarely) non-functional equipment. These are some minor issues, but they don't bother you much.

GMC Nagpur, although it is infamous for ragging, I can assure you that all our seniors are extremely kind-hearted. My seniors were the only reliable friends I had in my first year of MBBS. They not only kept me grounded and motivated, but also took me out for dinners whenever I had a bad day or I was homesick. I would've probably sunk into depression had it not been for them.

There are 2 girls' hostels for MBBS students: Ladies Hostel 1 & Ladies Hostel 2, which are adjacent to the college building. The boys hostel is further down the road (a very beautiful road, I must add) - Boys Hostel 3, 4 & 5. I wouldn't say that they are extremely clean and posh, but they are pretty good considering that they're run by the state government. The food in the mess is okay. If you do not get acclimatised to it in the first few months, there are a variety of Tiffin Services to choose from.

The girls are required to have a room partner throughout the tenure, but the boys do get their private rooms after the 1st year (it depends on which hostel you are allotted and the number of students who opt for the hostel). If there are enough rooms available, the boys end up getting private rooms. To answer your question, usually most 1st year students are allotted the hostel.

About liquor & rave parties: I have been in the ladies' hostel since 2013, and there hasn't ever been any such incident. The reports that you may have come across were not reported in the national newspaper, but in the vernacular newspapers, which have a secret agenda to defame certain people working for the benefit of the student body.

About the education & teaching: If you take an interest in learning, then you will flourish no matter what sort of environment you are put into. GMC Nagpur has some of the best teachers who actually take an interest in teaching, but if you or your batch as a whole does not show interest in learning, they may not even look your way twice.

MBBS is a competitive course, so don't be surprised if you feel too much pressure. You will probably have to face the same environment even if you choose to go to a different college. Dealing with human lives is a mammoth task, and only we can ensure that we live up to our reputation of being the crème de la crème of society.

At the end of the day, no matter which college you choose to go to, it will have its pros & cons. The decision will rest upon you whether to utilise the pros to your benefit or not.

Even as a person who belongs to Mumbai, I have fallen in love with GMC Nagpur. It has humbled me in ways unimaginable. I go to college with students who not only come from families of famous doctors, but also from families of farmers and agriculturists. This is something you don't get to see in every other college.

Believe it or not, I have found friends in such a wide spectrum of society that I am convinced that GMC Nagpur has not only trained me to be a good doctor, but also to be an open-minded human being.

So, all in all, it is a great college for doing your UG, and I am a proud GMCian.

Q:   What is the hostel fees at Government Medical College, Nagpur?
    A:

In hostel mess facility is also provided. In each hostel there are two mess halls which provides decent food quality. The hostel fees in Government Medical College, Nagpur is Rs. 60000 per annum for all Category candidates as per previous year's fees structure details provided by the College.

Good for clinical practice. Low fees but lacks infrastructure and disorganised administration.
Placements: In general, there's no procedure of placement in any of the medical colleges at all. Same is the case with GMC College of Physiotherapy. Sometimes, teachers and professors might suggest or let you know about some vacancies but that's about it. There's a 6-month mandatory internship which provides good clinical experience.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of classes is really bad, especially for the departmental subjects. The library of GMC is one of the best features of the college. Hostel has a mess but no inbuilt canteen, although other canteens in the campus are available. There's a swimming pool and sports facilities are available as well.
Faculty: For physiotherapy course, the subjects are broadly divided in departmental subjects and rest of the subjects (common with MBBS course). The teachers are all qualified, some teach great, some just show a PPT. The curriculum is hard and it covers a great variety of subjects throughout the 4 year course. BPT, like every other medical course, is an annually evaluated course rather than 2 semesters per year. The yearly University exams are of good standard, although with regular studies they are easily passable.
Other: Being a government college, the patient inflow is great and students can get lots of clinical practice. The campus, with many students from other courses, has a great diversity. An yearly gathering of 3 days is organised in the college. Scholarship programmes for students from different categories are also available. The campus is vast and full of scenic greenery, and also it is situated amidst the city so connectivity is great. Infrastructure of the Physiotherapy section needs to be enhanced.

It is a very good college with good teachers and clinical staff.
Placements: We don't know much information about that, but people mostly go abroad and do great there. There are also people who work in India and get paid very well, so the college is good placement-wise. I know one of my seniors who works in Australia and has a package of 40 LPA.
Infrastructure: Hostels are good, but we don't get hostels in the first year. The patient flow is very good, and you get patient and OPD exposure from the first year itself, which makes you very experienced. You get around 200 patients daily, and on a busy day, it may be 400 or more.
Faculty: Teachers are good and helpful. My college has a team of excellent teachers who are knowledgeable, supportive, and dedicated to students' success. They not only provide quality education but also guide and inspire us to grow academically and personally. Their teaching methods make learning engaging and effective, creating a positive environment for students to excel.
Other: The surroundings are very good, and the campus size is very big and beautiful nature wise.

Best Government medical College If you want good patients exposure .
Placements: Best Government college in Maharashtra for both specially if you are looking for great patients exposure the patient flow here is really good even in first year your posting start and you get opportunity to learn many things from 1st day you join faculty is also good .
Infrastructure: Facilities are good, college infrastructure is okay like many construction are going on in college so that is a bit disturbing but otherwise everything is okay And there is girls hostel available for all year but boys have to wait for some month to get the hostel allotted .
Faculty: Teachers are also very helpful and other than that seniors here are also helpful they give us guidance about everything may it be studies or any personal issues here as a first year can't comment on exams but the main exam is conducted by University muhs .
